What to write in a card to someone who was just Dx'ed w/ ALS?

A family friend was recently Dx'ed with ALS.  He's not doing well physically or emotionally.  He told someone that he didn't imagine he'd make it to see another winter.  So sad.  Anyway, I got him a card, but I can't find any words to write!  All I have so far is, "We are so sorry to hear about your diagnosis."

Anything would be helpful!  Thanks!

  • Oh my this is a hard one. I have a VERY good friend who is in the final stages of ALS, it is not an easy disease, in fact it is very hard for me to see him, but I do because he needs us.

We are so sorry to hear about your diagnosis, we will be here to help you and support you and your family in any way. It does not matter the time of day or night please feel free to call us if you need anything at all. You will remain in our prayers and thoughts in the times to come

  • I like the idea of telling him you will be there to support him and his family - assuming you are close enough (emotionally) to really mean it and for them to want you to be.  So sorry, this is horrible.

  • I'm at a loss on how to word things, but wanted to express my sympathies to you and to him and his family.  My grandma died from ALS when I was in eighth grade and I will never forget the things I saw.  It's such a sad, horrible disease and I'm sorry any of you are going through this.  :(

Same with my Grandma.  I'm sorry that he is going through this.
