How do I break this disgusting new thing?

DD has a new habit that I am none to fond of.  She has either a cold or allergies...whatever.  She does not tolerate dirty hands or a stuffy nose well at all.  So she has decided that she will pick the boogers out of her nose and say "here mommy, this is for you".  Would be fine if I had a tissue, but usually I do not.

  • First, I would start carrying tissues.

Then, just tell her that it's not what people do. DS started that, and we reminded him that we BLOW our noses, not pick them. He's a good blower.

  • I had this with my dd and I would tell her to use a tissue and all that to no avail.  One day at preschool another kid told her it was gross.  Done and now she uses a tissue.  Thank you preschooler!

  • Yikes! DD was in a nose-picking phase, which is bad enough, but it's worse for you since she hands it to you (ew)! We just reminded her over and over that you don't pick your nose, you use a tissue. We'd hand her a tissue and tell her to use it. She eventually just stopped doing it. Just keep a tissue in your pocket 24/7 until she gets it!
  • My DD went through that. . . either she'd hand it to me or she'd feed it to the dog. Ew.
