I have always had problems with my skin so I have been using Proactiv for awhile now and find that it really works. I asked my doctor if he thought it was okay for me to keep using it now that I'm pregnant - he wasn't familiar with it, but after reading the ingredients he thought it should be okay. Is anyone else continuing to use Proactiv or has been advised not to use it? I have tried googling it, but every time the question comes up it turns into a discussion on why Accutane is unsafe - which is important, but doesn't answer my question
Thanks!?

I am continuing to use it. The controversy tends to be with salycylic (sp?) acid. Proavtiv uses Benzoyl Peroxide.
I had bad acne before I got pregnant and now it is even worse. Proavtiv is the only product that has worked for me and I have tried everything out there. I am glad that my Dr. told me I could use it b/c it would be very hard for me to stop using it. I sound like one of those commercials...

this is pretty medical, but just know that the active ingredient in proactiv is benzoyl peroxide, so you can read that section.
my OB said that she didn't think it would be a problem, but another OB in her group doesn't like it -- i didn't get much else in way of explanation for why.
your doc doesn't know what proactive is? amazing.
there are commercials on every channel every hour. does he not have a TV?
My OB said no to both.. but every doctor is different.

When I did use it, it made my face even worse.
Thanks for looking out! I did my research along with talking to my OB. I understand that no official studies have been done on the effects of Benzoyl Peroxide and a developing fetus. There have also been no known birth defects related to Benzoyl Peroxide. This is one those personal decisions that I weighed the pros and cons, talked with my OB and forged ahead. I do not use the topical cream (step 3) all over my face though.

I didn't mean to call you out personally.. it was just easier for me to quote you then figure out how to spell both those ingredients (salycylic acid and benz. perox.) correctly. Just answering her original question that according to my OB the benzoyl peroxide stuff is not ok.. But I know plenty of friends who's OBs actually said both that and the saly...acid were fine..
But you're right about the step 3 stuff. I've always heard no on that from everyone I've talked to. I've heard that just the face wash part of it many OBs say is fine.

I'm glad you posted this! I don't use Proactive, but I have still been using my wash/toner/cream that contain benzoyl peroxide... I'd only heard that salicylic acid was bad.
What's a girl to use?
I use the mild cleanser... Cetaphil...
is this okay to use? First baby inside
Bim-
I wasn't being sarcastic. This darn computers make emoting very hard. I have no friends or family near me so I kind of look to you ladies to be my support during this pregnancy. I appreciate that we all try to look our for one another. My thanks was sincere.
My OB told me it's fine as long as I don't drink it, but if I felt weird about using it, I could use something else for the 1st tri, then go back to it.
I'm not using it and I'm breaking out like a mofo.
I got the same thing from my doctor and still use it. It is fine. I actually stopped using it and she told me it would be totally fine. As long as it's not a prescription, it is okay, but go with your gut.
