wwyd?

I am going to be needing a sitter one day a week for at the most 6 hours.  It would not be every week since my dh does not travel all the time. I have an ad up on sittercity and have called a local daycare. The people I'm looking at on sittercity charge up right around $10 an hour and I am kind of bound by their schedule. The daycare for both kids for 6 hours is $42 and I don't have to take them everyweek just have to give them some notice if I am not bringing them the following week. I can drop them off anytime after 6:30 a.m.  I know a couple of people who have or had their dc's their and they really liked it. All teachers are either in school or graduated for early childhood something or other! I am leaning towards the daycare, so ds can be around more kids and I won't have someone that doesn't have a set schedule every week and book someone else and then I'm stuck since it is not full time.  Not sure what to do. Which one would you use?  Sorry if this is confusing! thanks for any help.

  • I'd use the dc because you never know when you might need it for more and it is good for them to be with other kids.  Also it seems like it would fit better with your schedule.
  • just by the way you described both my gut is saying the daycare.  heck, your gut is saying the daycare.

  • The daycare will cost about the same for 3x/month as a sitter would for 2x/month.  I also think it sounds like it would work better w/ your need for flexibility.  Is there anything reason why you'd prefer an individual babysitter over the daycare?

  • No real reason, I just didn't think any of our daycares ran like this. They are all either part time, or full time and you have to pay per day or whatever so I started out looking for an individual until someone brought this daycare to my attention.
  • I would use daycare for many reasons.

    The socialising with other kids.

    The reliability of the hours.

    The flexibility.

The option of getting extra or different days later.

The fact there is more regulation of daycares.

The fact there are simply more eyes at a daycare. Not to say some are not terrible, but the chances of being caught and reported are much higher. I always felt about nannies that it was great for young babies to have one-to-one but with no one watching who knows what the nanny is up to? Whereas at daycare there are too many other eyes for someone to mess up unless it is systemic and really bad right through the daycare.

  • Daycare, hands down.
