Adoption

Homestudy progress. . .

Finally!!  I was able to schedule our first official interview with the agency today - woot!  They've been really busy with some personnel changes and I felt like we were getting behind.  I don't blame them - I'm just impatient.

Our first visit will be at our house - and include the safety check.  I had a childproofing service come through for a survey last week and the guy gave me some really good info.  We'll probably spend a small fortune on the safety ladder installations and custom gates - but if it prevents an accident it's all worth it.  Luckily, most everything else in the house is up to snuff so I'm not too worried about the visit in general.  Our caseworker is pretty cool, so I don't get the feeling she'll railroad us with anything weird.

I was bummed to hear that my crappy HR people STILL haven't responded to the work verification stuff for me that got sent out in mid-February.  FCOL, how long do you need??  (HR lady got a not-so-happy phone message from me today as a result.)

So, it's looks like the earliest our HS will be done is late in May - but at least we're getting there.  Thanks for reading, ladies - I was just excited to make progress and wanted to tell someone who'd understand.

2 years TTC with 5 losses, 1 year recovering, 6 months applying for adoption approval, and almost a year waiting for a placement. Then, a miracle BFP at age 36!

  • Congrats on making some progress! I don't remember if you are doing DA or foster-adopt?

We also did the whole safety inspection thing with a pro, we purchases a fire ladder that can be dropped out of any window, and created all the child-proofing plans.

She didn't even ask about them or look at anything Huh? We put a bit of work into it all but oh well.

    Good luck! Yes

  • That's great that your first meeting is scheduled.  Our home visit was very short.  Our CW asked about our neighborhood and home and looked around.  Our home did not need to be childproofed at the time.  Not sure if your agency has told you your home needs to be, but you might not need to do so much.  Safety ladders are not a bad idea, though!  I had bought safety caps for the plugs, but she didn't look at that.

I'm sorry that your HR dept hasn't sent in what they need to send in.  It's a good thing you called.

Well, I hope things go well with your meeting -- all the best!

  • yeah for progress!  And you are much better prepared then we were!  Although, our agency didn't ask about childproofing, but we did have to prove a second exit from the second floor- we have a back stairway, so that counted for us.

Ugh, sorry HR is being a PITA, I always found our HR less then responsive as well!  I hope she gets her act together and gets you what you need fast!

  • Good luck! We finished our home study in February, but it wasn't finalized till March. The paperwork took about 5 weeks. We only had two visits, one in the home and one in the office of the agency. We did some safety stuff too in our house. When we told the social worker she said that wasn't necessary and she didn't even look for any of that anyway. All she did was walk through the house real quick and just wanted to see if we had any big household projects that were going on or any weapons in the house. Relax and just be yourself.
