If you SAH...

Do you "make yourself up" on a daily basis.  Full makeup, blow-dried/straightened hair, actual outfits?

My friend told me she always does her hair, puts on full makeup and gets fully dressed every day -- even if she doesn't go anywhere.  I told her I was impressed and she said that if she didn't go through the effort, she figured one day she'd be like "well, why even bother showering?"

I have to admit that I often just throw my wet hair in a ponytail, go sans makeup and wear sweats when I'm home.  I ALWAYS shower, though.

Am I alone?

Re: If you SAH...

  • I am now a SAHM (not by choice though). I haven't showered today, but I usually shower at night.
  • I haven't showered or gotten dressed today lol!  It's pouring rain,  so there's no way we're leaving the apartment and I'm worn out from a busy weekend.  Usually I shower and get dressed in sweats or jeans every day, but rarely do my hair.  I rarely wore makeup even when I was working, so I don't do that unless it's a holiday or we're going out somewhere nice.

  • Yep, I sure do! But I always go somehere..I am never home all day. I only blowout and flatiron every third day because I only wash it every 3rd day.
  • what you don't do that every day!! are you nuts!! I have too... HAHAHAHAHAA... I am sitting in my yoga pants and matching top...NO MAKE UP hair in a wet ponytail.. :)
  • I always get dressed and put my face on. I usually make a point to leave the house every day, but I don't feel human w/o doing that.

I also try to look nice so that when DH comes home from work, I'm not looking how he last saw me, in my jammies.

  • Most days, yes.

Today I'm dressed, but haven't showered.  It's been rainy out all morning, but I did have to run to the bank, which is the only reason I'm wearing clothes and not pajamas still.

Generally though, I do shower and dress and so forth.  Even if I don't go anywhere.  It makes me feel better when I do.

  • I work part time and there is NO way on the days that I am not working that I will get dressed up or do my hair/make up.  Even when I get home from work I throw on sweats....so no you are not alone!!

  • Well, on days I'm home (work PT), I'm somewhere in the middle.  I always shower when DD is taking a nap and throw on jeans and a t-shirt.  I dry my hair more out of necessity because its curly and would be a frizzy mess otherwise.  I wear a little make-up.  I know its blasphemy but I hate sweats and flip-flops.

ETA:  One reason I make a little effort is because I felt terrible when I was overweight after having my girls.  Taking care of myself lifted my spirits.

  • I will admit there are some days, Fridays as that is the only day we do not leave the house, that we have PJ day if it is nasty outside and we can not go out, I do not  wear makeup and her hair is in a pony tail. Now if we are out and about, I am  dressed, hair done makeup on.
  • Oh and my hair is in a wet ponytail right now!!!

  • I do, but it is a very rare day that we don't go out. So, every day by 8:30 I am showered, dressed, hair dried and straightened, and make-up on (only tinted moisturizer, mascara, and a touch of eyeliner, though - I'm not rocking full on foundation and blue eye shadow or something).

In the summer I do sometimes just put my wet hair up in a bun, but I obviously can't do that in the cold weather.

  • When I did SAH I would never put on make-up unless I was going out.  I would mostly wear either sweats or workout type clothing, as we would go for walks.

I shower DAILY NO MATTER WHAT.  I could never NOT shower.

  • Well, for a while I have been showering and doing the yoga pant, no make-up and air dry hair routine b/c it has been dark and rainy for the past 4 months and I think I got into a slump.  The last couple of weeks, I have been putting more effort into me (actually doing my hair, make-up, thought out outfit) and I will say that I feel 10x more productive.  I have more energy I think b/c I feel better about myself.  I need to keep this up!

  • I always shower, get dressed and put on makeup. Whether we are going somewhere or not.

  • I run most mornings so I always need a shower.  One day a week, I usually have a lazy day and just put on yoga pants or something after I shower.  All other days I do my hair and make-up and get dressed even if I don't leave the house.
  • I don't do my hair everyday, but I do shower, make up and blow dry my hair.  More than 1/2 of the time I would say my hair is in a pony tail.

  • I rarely do my hair and wear makeup when I do go somewhere (unless its somewhere nice, or church or something), so no. I do not do those things when I stay home.

  • I don't do all that when I am going out.   I rarely wear make up unless I'm working.  I do shower and get dressed every morning.  I feel more human after my shower.  Getting dressed is usually jeans and a t-shirt or jeans and a sweater.  Every once in a while on a bad day, I'm in sweats, but they always make me feel sick.  Weird, I know.  I also get the girls dressed almost every day even if we're not going out (though not necessarily EVERY day).
  • Yes.  I get dressed and put on some make-up pretty much everyday...I feel so much better when I do.  I will put on comfy pants earlier in the evening though as I get the kids ready for bed and do baths, etc...
  • A shower everyday is a MUST! I don't see how anyone could stand not showereing every day. Gross. It may sound weird to some of you, but I don't even own a pair of sweats. I live in FL though. I am never in my jammies past 9, but we usually do something every day even if it's a quick trip to the grocery store. I usually put on some light makeup, a tank, & a cute, flowy skirt & flip flops. My hair is in a ponytail 90% of the time & I wear it down & curly when I want to look a little nicer. So I guess I would say I put in effort, but not full on false eyelashes & blowout effort.

  • I get dressed/ do my hair 98% of the time-- otherwise, I pig out and act like a sloth all day long :)
  • I never wore make-up anyway.  If I went out (I mean out....like to the bar or something), I'd slap some mascara and lip gloss on, but that's it.

I don't even own a blow drier (and my hair is long, I just let it dry).

I do take a hot shower every night.  It's my escape.  It's less about the cleaning myself and more about being alone somewhere where people aren't yapping or screaming or crying or pawing at me.  No ringing phones.  No having to yell, "Stop shoving your sister!"  No diapers to change in the shower.

Sometimes, it's a bath and I don't bother washing my hair with shampoo, I just wet it when I dunk my head under and enjoy the silence.

I'm sort of lucky that the hair on my legs doesn't grow so much.....I do limited maintenance in that regard!  The armpits....I do them every other night because you just never know (especially now....a trip to L&D...a gown...exposed pits....no way).

I don't care if it's midnight by the time I get to it....I get in my daily shower or bath!

  • I have to shower everyday, no matter what or else I don't feel totally awake & gross.  Even if we go out (just DH, DD & I), I may not put makeup on or do my hair, but I will wear jeans & a sweater.  If I'm going out to meet friends, etc, then I will go full out (makeup & hair done).  Everyday at home though, I'm in lounging clothes all day!

  • I shower, blow dry my hair, put on full make-up and get dressed everyday, usually by 9am (I shower while DH is still home).  We usually go somewhere everyday, but even if we're not, still get ready everyday.  My routine is not too high maintenance... only about 25-30 minutes, including my shower.

  • Not alone. I only put on makeup and get dressed up if we're leaving the house.
