blanket use

My DS loves his blanket when in his car seat.  He loves to cuddle it and he hugs it.  Last night both boys fell asleep unswaddled so we decided to test the water and we left them unswaddled.  It wasnt to bad we only got up 4 times (all within 2 hrs) for pacies.  The 4th time DH decided enough was enough and swaddled the offender.  BUT last night got me thinking when do they get blankies in bed?

Re: blanket use

  • My girls will be 2 years old next week and they still use sleep-sacks.  No blankets here.  They move around too much.
  • Loading the player...
  • My girls literally stay in the same position when they sleep.  The only thing that moves is their arms.  I'm sure it will change eventually but I can literally tuck their blankets in around them and it stays there....unless they kick them off.  L has to go to bed with "pink bunny" the blanket w/the bunny head attached.  She holds onto it while she sucks her thumb.  M holds her worm (ie, hungry caterpillar) but she sleeps like a cross with both arms out flat and never moves.
  • I asked our pediatrician about  blankets just before the boys' first birthday. She told us that she strongly reccomends we do not give them blankets until after their 2nd birthday because there is still a suffocation risk.

That being said, my guys are still all over the place when they sleep. We're hoping that by next winter they'll sleep under a blanket, but so far it's not looking too promising.

  • Mine have always used them.  They roll around, sit up, lay back down... they just take their blankies with them.

  • I'll let you know when Brady is 18 and letting go of the swaddle :) I swaddle Jax's bottom half. I'd use a sleep blanket on him, but I need a hole for the tube.

no loose blankets for these kiddos for a long time - thes two can not be trusted!!

  • My trio has always had little loveys in their cribs, so they had something to look at/self soothe/play with.  When the weather got a little bit cooler (Sept-ish), we gave them large lovey blankets - they have doggie heads and silkie paws but the whole body is blanket-like.  Around 10 months and on we started giving them real blankets and more stuffed toys.  I was a lot less concerned with what was in their crib once they were rolling and sleeping on their bellies anyway, and once they were sitting and standing it was no big deal to me anymore.
