2nd SA Results

DH did his 2nd SA two weeks ago and today I got the results from the nurse.  His Dr. is only in on Wednesdays so we don't know if he wants him to come in for an appt., but I would assume the answer is yes.  All of the results were in the normal range except for the morphology (again).  But this time instead of 0% normal morph, he got 2% normal.  He is excited about it, but I'm not so much since that is still not in the normal range.  Any guesses as to what his urologist will say?  Any similar experiences?  TIA

DH has had frequent urination issues and an occasional burning sensation for a while now and that was what he went to the urologist for.   While there, he mentioned we had been trying for 7 months+ and the urologist said he should do an SA.  Seemed early to us, but went ahead and got one.  When it came back abnormal the Dr. said to do a second one in March.

Well, we got 2% on our first SA, and they still recommended ICSI. 2% is better than 0% but not yet in the normal range, or even in a range that my doc would even do IUI. Your doc could be different though.

 Did your RE or DH's urologist recommend anything for improving the morph?  From what I read, medication usually doesn't work.

I don't know of any medication, but there are vitamins/supplements to take, as well as limit drinking, eat healthy, exercise, etc. that can possibly help. I am assuming the urologist checked for Varicocele?

The recommendation for a next move is going to vary widely by doctor.  First, you need to get to an RE as they will be the one to handle the next moves, unless there is some sort of "fixable" cause of the MFI (varicocele, obstruction, etc).  A lot of REs don't think that morph is a problem by itself and we were told that if morph were our only problem, IUI would be an option.  Abnormally shaped sperm do penetrated eggs.  A normal course of action would likely be up to 6 IUIs followed by IVF w/ ICSI, if necessary.  If you are out of pocket and looking for the most bang for your buck, jumping right into IVF might be the best option.

No varicocele found.  It will be interesting to see what the dr. says next.  He didn't seem concerned about the first SA.  I'm not sure if that was just becuase it was the first one and we had only been trying 7 months, or if he really believes we can get PG w/ such low 0-2% morphology.

Interesting that some Docs will recommed IUI and some will say move right to IVF if morphology is in question.  Since I hear it can take a while to get into an RE, I should probably make an appt. soon.  I just hate that it is coming to this.  I don't want to give up hope that it will happen naturally within 12 months or so...
