Baby Names

DH gave me his top name choices:)

BOY: William Gray (Gray)

GIRL: Viviann Grace Juliet (Viv or Vivvie)

Our other name choices are in my sig, but I am thrilled that he chose my favorites as his--with NO coercion :)?

?

ETA: William IS a family name--honoring men on both sides of our family, so thats why we're using it as his first name. ?And I think Gray is a strong stand-alone name:) ?But when we mean business we can bust out the full WILLIAM GRAY!

Viviann is not a typo with the 2 Ns. ?We wanted to honor DH's mother (Joann) somehow and work in Ann to our name (I am not a fan of the name Joann, so using her whole name was out). ?Grace and Juliet are family names on my side - and are most specially the names of my 2 sisters who I am very close to.

-So there's the method behind my madness:)?

?

Re: DH gave me his top name choices:)

  • I love them! Not that you asked for my opinion, but I will give mine anyway! If it were me, I would use Juliet Grace as the girl name, but that is just because I love the name Juliet so much. And for the boy I would use William Grayer, just because I think Gray sounds like a nn for something longer.  But congrats on choosing names, and I love the ones you came up with!

Is there a reason why Viviann has two middle names? If not, I don't see the point. Either pick Grace or Juliet. I like William, but am not a fan of Gray. If you are going to call him Gray, why not name him Gray William? Is William a family name so that's why you are calling him by his middle name??
  • They're both very nice!

They're very good as is, but if it were me I'd use Juliet Grace and William Greyson/ Grayson William.  I agree that the third middle name seems random and Gray seems like a nn.  GL!

  • love them both - great choices!!
  • Very nice!  Was that a typo with two Ns on Vivian?
  • I really like them as well.  They are classic and poetic sounding.  :)
  • Love the girl name!  Vivian was my top choice, but after some drama with DH I had to let it go.  I would go with Vivian Juliet since Grace is just so common in the middle lately.

The boy name is OK.  William is a little too common for my taste, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with it.  Gray is a little out there, though, so they balance.

  • I like both names just the way they are

My ten year old has two mn's as well and it's fine (Matthias Darrel) after his father and my father ... he loves that his middle initials are 'MD' ..

  • Isn't Vivienne a standard spelling for the name Vivian?  That way you could still get the two N's in there, and not have to make the child explain away an incorrect spelling for the rest of her life.  But, I really don't understand this trend toward creating names by using pieces of family members names.

Sounds like you're calling him Gray and not William?  Gray is not my style, but I have no problem with calling a kid by his middle name.  I grew up going by my middle name, it's pretty normal in my area.

Why the two middle names for the girl name?  If there's a reason, I don't think it's a huge deal, but if it's just for fun, you might want to rethink.  Standard forms (SAT's, drivers licenses, passports) only have space for three names, not four.  She may run into problems.  At the least, she'll end up having to have just her two middle initials on there, and neither middle name in full.  Or just using the first middle name and dropping the second.

I agree with this. My personal pet peeve is naming a kid a first name that you don't intend to call him/her by. Whatever you intend to call him/her, make that the first name and give the family name as the middle name. This has always bugged me but especially as a teacher trying to figure it all out on the first day of school. It is really annoying to the kids too, having to constantly clarify that they go by their middle name.

  • I love those names! Great choices!
  • Great choices!
  • i like william gray a lot (always liked williamson and i'm going to use gray as a mn for a girl) but i really don't like viviANN. vivian is ok but juliet grace would be better if you really want to use those names. i don't like the 3 first names thing.
