most docs won't even attempt to listen until 10-12 weeks - they don't want to worry the mom if they can't find it earlier. we heard ours at 9 weeks 3 days with a doppler.....hope this helps!
Seeing the heartbeat- usually around 6 weekish (we were 6w6d)
Hearing the heartbeat- I know you can hear it much sooner on an u/s than a doppler.
DOPPLER:
Some women as early as 8 weeks but at 10w5d we still couldn't hear it- it depends a multitude of factors. We first heard it at 11w5d. However- most doctor's wont even try until 12 weeks & really shouldn't b/c it is scary as anything to not hear it.

The reason I ask is because I in work in a hospital. There are US students that I think need "practice" time. I was thinking about seeing if they could hear anything but I didn't want to go to soon.
We were able to see a tiny flicker on our abdominal u/s at 5w6d and then when they did the transvaginal u/s that same day, we got to see and hear it:-) It's amazing! I started to shake from the experience (we are considered high risk, so it really felt good to see our nugget progressing from the yolk sac the week before.)
