Baby scratching face all the time!!

DS is constantly tearing at his face....we have to put socks or mittens on his hands to keep him, from cutting his skin. Did anyone else experience this? And if so, what did you do to stop it or prevent him from cutting himself? Poor baby...it breaks my heart to see those scratches all over his little face!

Cut his nails.

Put mittens on him all the time (his hands will get sweaty and smell like feet, FYI)

Put aquaphor on his face if it's dry or getting baby acne. It can be itchy!

DD scratches her face pretty regularly. We use the mittens, and I also try to file her nails every few days to keep them short. I think the nail filing is actually more effective than the mittens. I kind of pull back ton her fingertip so I can file them really short without hurting her and it makes a big difference.

Clip his nails frequently.  My ds woke up with a terrible scratch on his cheek a few weeks ago.  Since then I have been clipping his nails every couple days.  I tried the mittens but they always come off.

Thanks, ladies...this helps tremendously. I clipped his nails this morning, but he still managed to scratch himself again. I will try the filing and see if that helps me get smoother edges on the nails.

The Aquaphor comment made me think...he does have a case of very bad baby acne...maybe it's itching him and that's why he's tearing at his face!! I never even thought of that until now! I will run out and get him some Aquaphor today. Thank GOD I found this board....

Ditto pp. Keep his nails short. Try to do it when he is asleep (w/limp limbs) so that you won't cut off too much. It's much easier to file his nails that way too.

I have not had good luck with mittens, she takes them off seconds after I put them on.  I have the gerber onsies where the sleeve folds over the hand and it has worked out great...especially since I have yet to figure out how I'm going to cut/file her nails!

We clip nails at least once/week...it's a pain.

DS has been scratching really bad and rubbing his?forehead?on my shirt constantly. ?The pedi said to put lotion on his face a couple times a day because its dry and probably itchy.
