I just got mine in January - about a week before we got 12 inches of snow. I had a CR-V previously (with AWD) and although the CR-V was a bit better in snow, the Odyssey does a great job too. I made it out of the neighborhood (about 4 streets to take) and 20 mi to work with no issues (just went a bit slow).
I have the base model (no auto sliding doors) but it still is very nice. All electric. There's multiple little cubbies for storage, some underfloor storage between front and middle seats, and the back seats fold down totally flat (and are VERY EASY to get up/down).
I really like it....it is the only van we looked at, as we love Honda.
I said the same thing, I can't believe I am driving a mini van! But seriously, I love it. It drives so nice. I live in Florida, so no snow for me, but I really do like it.
I asked around for why Odyssey vs. Sienna, and my sister told me that she had seen too many Moms stuck on the street during drop off at school (the school is on a hill) on snowy days in the Odyssey. . . .but not the moms in the Siennas. . . Another Dad i know said that although the Odyssey does not come in 4-wheel drive, he bought it anyways because he doesn't want his wife and kids to be driving in the snow ever and so it won't be a problem (whatever - you try living in Boston and not driving in the snow! hah!)
That's one of the reasons we chose a Sienna - plus I like Toyota cars and we got a great deal on a used one.
I'm sure there are lots of reasons to choose the Odyssey, espeically if you are going to have 2 wheel drive anyway, but just thought i'd share what i'd heard second hand.
Re: Honda Odyssey?
ditto!
