I have had it with my 5-weekers sleeping with me on the nursing pillow every night. While I love the closeness and the fact that they actually sleep this way, I need to transition them to the crib, and I'm going to start trying tonight. The pediatrician said I should elevate the mattress on one end and lay them on their sides b/c they spit up sometimes at night. I'm anxious about putting them on their sides instead of their backs. Those of you who put yours on their sides, do you pack them with rolled-up blankets or do anything else to keep them from rolling onto their stomachs? Mine don't really roll at this point, so I think I'm just being paranoid, but I don't want to spend the whole night hovering over them watching them breathe.
Re: sleep position?
Try the vented sleep positioners. One side velcros so you can adjust it to fit your baby perfectly.
We put our twins in the same crib at about 6 weeks, both on their sides, no sleep positioners or rolled blankies, and they were fine. One still sleeps on her side and one prefers her back, but neither has rolled onto their tummies.
I admit I still crank the baby monitor up to full volume to listen to them breathing all night long.... once a mama, always a mama, right?!
