Changes in milk while pregnant?

Is there any change in my milk that my DD could be picking up on now that I'm pregnant. I'm only 6 weeks and DD just hasn't been herself this week. She's very clingy and doesn't want to sleep. She refused to nap all week and at night she wakes up frequently just screaming for me. When I pick her up, it's like she's trying to climb back inside of me. My supply seems ok so far, and my daytime pumping output is normal, but she constantly wants to nurse.  Is she picking up on a change in me? She's 7 months. She just had a growth spurt last month.  I don't know what to do with her.

Re: Changes in milk while pregnant?

  • Part of it can and will be changes in  your child... she could be going through a growth spurt, etc.

BUT it is the case that your milk will change during the course of your pregnancy (in both quality and quantity) and those changes could be starting as early as now.

I'm nursing a much older toddler and have noticed some pretty serious changes in her nursing behavior since becoming pregnant.

The Girl is 5. The Boy is 2. The Dog is 1.

  • Oh I'm so jealous!  I wish I was pregnant right now.  I still haven't gotten my period back yet b/c of breastfeeding but I so wish I was able to get pregnant while nursing.

As for your milk...my best friend nursed her daughter until becoming pregnant again, her daughter was almost one at the time.  Her daughter would no longer nurse anymore, that's what convinced my friend to take a test in the first place.  She weaned herself right then and there.  Of course a one year old baby is nursing a lot less than a 7 month old so hopefully your child does not suddenly decide to stop nursing.
