Lazy Doc?

I am just wondering what you all think...I am about 11.5 .. going into 12 weeks and I had my second doc apt.  I asked if he would try and hear the heartbeat, and he said no, not till you are about 16-17 weeks! My next apt is May 1 and I will be 15 weeks, if he doesnt listen to it then, I will have my first u/s before I hear the heartbeat!  I know so many people that have had an early u/s.. Do I have a right to be ticked off about this?  The nurse checks my blood pressure and weight, and then the doctor comes in and felt my stomach, said see you next month, didnt even give me a chance to ask anything.  This is the second time I left unhappy.

It has taken my husband and I almost 4 years to get pregnant because of a tumor I have on my pituitary gland, and I have been on meds and had an MRI in January.  I asked if it is possible if I am further along because I am showing so much and he said yes and left it at that. But it worries me since if I am further along, I had that MRI.

What do you guys think?

Thanks

Re: Lazy Doc?

  • If it were me, I'd be finding a new doctor.  One who takes the time to answer your questions, and darn it, if you want to hear the hb, why would he refuse?  It's your baby, afterall.  Find someone you are comfortable with and takes the time to really take care of you and the baby.

Ditto this.  I would find a new doc.  My doc allows me to come in any time I want to hear the hb, even if I don't have an appt.  That just seems strange that he hasn't listened for it yet.  It only takes a second.

I would certainly be upset about him not having time to answer questions.  That's just inexcusable.

  • I agree with previous posters - find a new doctor.  You'll be seeing your doctor a lot between now and the time you deliver your baby so make sure it is someone you are comfortable with and someone that takes the time to listen and answer your questions and concerns.

  • Thanks!  I just found out that I will be sent to an OB then end of May..so i dont have to worry to much longer.  I live in New Brunswick, and the list to get a different doc is like 2 years..But I will get to go see the OB soon..I hate to wait till the end of May. But I think when I go in for my next apt, I am going to call before hand and tell them to at least try.  Maybe if I put up a bit of a fight, they will do it for me..I dont know if they can refuse..But thanks for the replies..I needed to get it off my chest and know I wasnt over reacting Wink

  • I hope everything works out well.  I think it's crucial you feel comfortable with your OB!!
  • I'm glad your getting a new doc!

Just for your peace of mind, I just wanted to comment that an MRI works off of magnets and is not an X-ray.  As such, I don't think that it would have any ill effects on your baby.  HTH.
