Are you going to Breastfeed?

Ok, for some reason my clicky poll won't work.. everytime I hit post... NOTHING! ::frustrated::

I don't think this has been asked in a while, but I was just wondering...

Who is going to breastfeed & who isn't? Could you please also include why you are or aren't?

I'm trying to decide for myself & was just curious what your thoughts were...

TIA!

Re: Are you going to Breastfeed?

  • Yes.  It's the most natural way to go... and I am all about the natural (or at least TRYING it).  Oh... and it saves money and time... I'm just too lazy to cook up a bottle every few hours.

  • I am going to try. Hoping the bf classes with help. I am choosing to for the health benefits it has for the baby.
  • I haven't decided yet either.  So this post could be extremely helpful for me too1
  • I definately plan to BF, it is so good for the baby and me, the bonding seems un-beatable and you can't beat it financially.

  • I am going to give it another whirl. I BF'd DS for about 2 months and I'm not going to lie. I HATED it. It was hard. My supply sucked (he'd feed for an hour on me and STILL take a full bottle). I'm hoping this time goes much smoother.

One thing though: If it doesn't work out I am NOT going to beat myself up over it like I did with DS.

  • I would like to breastfeed and pump. If for some reason it does not work out I will go to formula.

Our decision for me bf was that it was extrememly beneficial for the baby and in some cases relieves symptoms postpartum. And honestly it just seemed easier than fussing about finding the correct formula for the babe.

Good luck with whatever decision you and DH make!

  • Definitely.

I did with DS, and the first month was pretty hard, but after that it's SO convenient.  I switched DS to formula when I went back to work when he was about 6 months, and for me bf was a million times easier.  I hated bottles.

If you decide to bf, just be prepared for it to be tough for a while.  It hurts really bad, and it will feel like it's ALL you do for a little bit.  Just know that it gets so much easier though.

This time I'm going to try to bf all the way until 1 year.  It's a PITA to pump at school (I'm a teacher), but it will be worth it for me.

[This is all in addition to the fact that I believe it's better for the baby.]

  • I am planning to. I want our baby to have all of the nutritional and bonding benefits. Plus, it's free!

  • I am. I did with my first child and loved it.  Not to mention the skin to skin contact/bonding and the feeling I got to be needed by her, it also was the best for her nutritionally, saved us money and less to pack when leaving the house, was always the right temp and didn't run into any issues with people.
  • i am hoping to its?healthiest?for mommy and baby?
  • Nope.

I had a breast reduction 1 1/2 years ago & truly doubt my boobs will do anything...I still can't feel them.

Selfishly, I fought the insurance company for 4 years, spent $3000 to have them operated on, & I just cannot go through that again (& my surgeon said that the longer I BF, the more risk I run of needing the surgery or a lift again).

Plus, I don't have a job where I can pump at work & I will probably be back in the office 6-8 weeks pp.  So I would only be able to BF 6 weeks max.

  • Yes.  I guess with DD it never occurred to me not to.  I EBF and main perks aside from bonding, no bottle prep or washing,  Save money and time.  I am really hoping I can EBF the twins.  ANd now an added benefit is b/c my MIL says I can't and that it's stupid.  Must prove her wrong b/c I can't tell her to shove a skewer up her butt.

    This.

  • Yes, I plan to breastfeed.  I say plan because you never know what issues could arise that make you unable to breastfeed, but I plan to try my hardest.  My reasons are it's natural, it's free but most importantly you can't duplicate the nutrients that breast milk provides.
  • I am definately going to.  I have been doing tons of research on it and it is the healthiest way to go for baby.  I know it will be hard and I am hoping that my body cooperates because I really want to EBF for the first 6 months at least.

This happend to my sister too with her DS. GL this go around!

  • I am going to because of the health benefits for baby.  Also, it's free!

I love this. That is reason enough. Lol. Yes

  • Yes, its the most natural choice, and its free.  I will be pumping also though, since for some odd reason breastfeeding still gives me the creeps.

  • I would like to.  I think it would be best for me and baby, and I would like the bonding experience.  Plus, it's free!

  • I am not going to.  My daughter went straight to formula and this one will to.  Honestly, it weirds me out.  And I just couldn't imagine doing nothing but feeding my baby for that first month or so.  I was so glad that my husband, mom, etc. could feed Rylie when she was first born so that I could sleep.  I am so glad I didn't have a baby attached to me all hours of the day and night!

  • I am definately gonna try...it's supposed to be the best thing you can do for your baby and yourself...breastmilk is really healthy for baby, and somehow the process helps mommy with postpartum depression, helps your uterus go back to normal size, etc.  There's a TON of info on why it's soo good for everyone involved!

  • I will be BFing, I hope. I am just worried that we will not get the hang of it or I won't produce enough milk.

  • I am not going to breastfeed.

When I was pregnant with my DS I was totally pro breastfeeding and I just could not see any other way of doing it.

When DS was born, I tried and tried, it just didn't work for me.  My supply was horrible.  I have a very large chest and it was hard to manipulate.  Nothing seemed to go right.  After DS had been home for a week he was loosing weight and we ended up having to stay in the hospital with him for one night because he was getting dehydrated.  I beat myself up about this, but kept trying.  Eventually I decided that this was in fact not the best route for DS or myself.  I switched to formula when DS was about 4 weeks old.

I think it is a wonderful thing and I have the upmost respect for those women who can do this - I'm actually kind of jealous, but the reality is that it is not for everyone.

  • Yes, or I will try my hardest, for the first three months.

After that, I'll be going back to work and haven't decided what I'll do.

    The DC Nest. Winers welcome.

  • I will.  We were actually really fortunate because my son would switch between the bottle and the breast right away.  I would pump and my husband could also feed him.

I only breastfed for 5 months, but will definitely plan to do it again.  Not only is it good for baby, it help me loose almost all my weight by 6 weeks postpartum.  Also, it saves A LOT of money (that's just an added perk!)

  • I plan on trying to! I hope it works out for me and the LO.

I'm doing it because it's healthy for the baby.

  • Yes! This is totally just my opinion, but I just think natural is a good way to go! I also want that bonding with my baby, it saves money, helps take baby weight off and healthier babies!
  • I plan to. I also plan to pump so that DH has a chance to feed baby as well.  We want him to have a chance to have some bonding time with the baby as well.  Our reasons are the nutrients, financial and bonding.

  • I am.  There are so many reasons to do it--best thing for the baby, great for bonding, economical, helps you lose weight!  I'm off for the first year so it will make it easier too.

  • Right now I don't plan to...but I guess I could change my mind.  I will be going back to work at 12wks and there is no where for me to pump and with my job and client visits, I am out of the office quite a bit.  I know I would have to switch to formula before I go back so I would only be able to BF for like 2 months....so I think we are going to do formula.

  • I plan on BFing as i did with my DD. I was able to BF her for 7 months and then my supply just spontaneously dried up over a matter of a few days. It is hard work (some days you feel like you have a baby attached to your boob all day and then pumping to have a frozen supply for daycare or whatever) and you get really sore at the beginning, but looking back, it was all worth it to me.

Honestly, when I was pregnant with DD I was completely on the fence of whether to BF or not. I just decided to give it a try so I didn't have any regrets if I would wonder later on and also because of the benefits breast milk provides for your LO. I am really glad I did. I loved that time with her and the way it made me feel as a mother is something I just can't explain.

    GL with your decision!

  • Definitely! ?It's healthier for the baby, it's extra mommy-baby bonding time, and it's cheaper and easier than using formula. ?

Oh and there's this: Traces of a chemical used in rocket fuel were found in baby formula samples! ?

  • I will try to for the first few weeks.  I have to go back to work at 6 weeks so after that I will prob switch to formula.  I did for about 6 weeks after DD was born.

  • Yep, going to try as much as possible. ?I'm going pump as well, so there will still be bottles - BPA free! - but I'm going to try to avoid formula as much as possible, unless I have to.
  • I won't be.  I'll be going back to work fairly soon afterwards, and I can't pump at work.  It wasn't worth it to me to start, get in a routine and then ween within a couple of months.  I researched both sides, and it's was the decision DH and I were most comfortable with.

This is what I have been leaning towards, but after reading the 1st few pages of WTE the 1st year I'm like, oh Gosh, maybe I need to BF!

  • I am hoping to BF. It is so good for the baby and mom, and also it is free. I will be pumping as well. I just hope all goes to plan. If for whatever reason I can't then no big deal I will do formula, I am not against it or anyone that decides to do this. I think everyone has their reasons and knows what works best for them. GL in whatever you decide!
  • I'm also undecided right now. I may exclusively pump while I'm on maternity leave so that way the baby is still getting breast milk, but other people can also feed him/her. I need to do some more research before I make my final decision though
