Babies: 9 - 12 Months

DD ate rash cream

I was changing DDs diaper on the floor, and went to dump her poo into the toilet, like 4 feet away. I came back and she had this little thing of Mustela diaper rash cream in her mouth (it was closed) and some was on her mouth and inside it. I cleaned it out as best as?I could.

I would think if something was made for babies, they would take into consideration that a baby might get a hold of it, and not make it with horribly toxic stuff right?

I am off to Google as well...?

Re: DD ate rash cream

  • My oldest slathered her face in Balmex, so I called poison control because I had no idea if she ingested it.

Not sure about Mustela, but Balmex is harmless.

I'd call poison control, just to be sure.  They were very helpful.

  • My DS did that when he was a baby. I flipped out, called Poison Control and they basically told me it was no big deal.

  • Oh no! :(  I don't have any info but I think it's a good idea to call poison control like the PP suggested.  Is there any info on the label that would give you some info?  I just looked at the labels of one of the diaper creams we have and it said "if swallowed get medical help or contact poison control right away".  But I'm sure it varies depending on the specific product.

    Good luck!

  • OK- poison control said no big deal. If she had gotten a ton, it could cause stomach upset, but just a bit won't do anything.

    Good!?

  • I'm sure she's fine, but I'd call if it were my daughter.

My stupid but extremely loveable Brittany spaniel (she actually responds better to "Dum-Dum" than her original name...) once ate an entire tube of Desitin.  She threw up grease 4 times in a 12 hour period, but was otherwise fine.  She won't go near any rash cream now, and this was like 8 months ago...
