So I don't really get spending a lot of money on stuff. I'm so excited when I find a great sale. I realize it's a part of who I am. I've never really been into fancy labels. I like nice stuff, like nice appliances and bedding, stuff like that. But I'm not really into paying a ton of money for things like shoes or purses. So my friend got a purse and is going nuts about it. It's a Jimmy Choo purse. Price tag? $1750. I almost died. Like actually had a coronary right there on the spot. I understand people wanting nice things, but am I the only one who just doesn't really get it? How does a company even going about creating a purse for $1750 that is just made of leather? How expensive can leather really be?
Re: is it just me? purse label question
That purse would need to last me the rest of my life for me to spend that kind of money.
I don't get it either.
I would never spend that much on purse. Never. I don't even think I would if I was super loaded.
I'm not big into labels either though. I would rather spend $100 bucks on the purse and save the rest, or spend the rest on something that the house needs.
I gotta say, I am right with you on that one. I have an idea of what I feel is the intrinsic value of an item, and I won't pay more than that for it. That's just me. If I had bought a $2000 purse, I wouldn't be able to stop thinking about what else I could have gotten for that $2000.
Maybe I am cheap, I dunno
I live by your philosphy too. I like nice things in certain things too. Shoes or purses? I better find something I can tolerate on the clearance rack.
as for the $1750 leather. It's from the cow that live up on the moon.

(I however, would not spend that much because I can't afford it and have other things I'd rather spend that kind of money on)

Maybe I'm weird to some but if I had $2000 burning a hole in my pocket I'd go on a vacation. Experiencing and enjoying the world is much more fulfilling than carrying some fancy handbag or owning a lot of pricey crap. But then what do I know? I buy $12 purses at Target.

Exactly! (although I have been itching for a diamond ring lately....but i'd probably still chose a vacation)
I think it's great once or twice in life to spend money on something that might last you a lifetime and become your signature piece that you hand down to your granddaughter or something. If that is a bag, so be it. I'd like to buy a funky ring at some point.
I try to live by a $50 rule for most clothes, but will splurge on things I know I'll wear a ton (ie. jeans, shoes, yoga clothes).
I have to add also- there are so many fantastic knock-offs that it just doesnt make it worth it.
I bought a fake pair of Prada shoes off of Ebay for $25. My friend spent $600 on the same exact pair of real shoes- she was fuming when she saw mine..
I get it to a degree. I'm a label whore, pure and simple. I am not ashamed of this. I have more Coach purses than I should and more "label" designers than I should, but I do make a point that 99% of the time if I am going to buy a label it had better be on sale. (i.e. my $495 Michael Kors pea coat I caught on sale for $89.00.) A good majority of my bags were all on sale or bought at the outlet.
I would NEVER spent $2000 on a Jimmy Choo bag. That's insanity. $1000 on a Louis Vuitton? If I had the money and it wouldn't be an issue then yes. Only because I've always wanted one.

I nearly choked over that price too!
I couldn't do it either. I do like nice things, if I feel I can justify it by getting some good use out of it, still my splurge price is still a tenth of that!
