Bottle Question RE: BPA

Hello! I am exclusively breastfeeding my DS but needed some advice on bottles for the few occasions that DH needs to feed Nick while I'm away. I registered for and received several 9 and 11 oz bottles. I opened up the 9 ounce size today and realized I received a 2 pack that are BPA free and a 3 pack that are not (the BPA free ones are a different color or I never would have noticed they're different).

Here's my question: since I am using breastmilk and not formula, I steam heat the bottles NEVER using the microwave. Can I use non BPA free bottles? What is the deal with BPA? I am clueless!

I wouldn't, I mean why risk it? I NEVER heat my bottles, period (both boys have/do take the bottle of breastmilk straight from the fridge or room temp), and I still make sure to only use BPA-free. I'm surprised you can even find any for sale that have BPA in them, BRU promised to have all products with BPA in them off their shelves by the end of '08 (or maybe even '07??). And the fact that you are using breastmilk vs. formula has no bearing on whether or not you should use BPA-free bottles, it's irrelevant Just return them, peace of mind!

Also, there was a big concern when some canisters of formula were found to be lined with BPA in the material, and those aren't heated...so the concern isn't just when the container is heated.

Thanks- the reason I mentioned the breastmilk vs. formula thing was because I don't microwave the bottles, I steam them (my steamer says it shouldn't be used for formula).

I just wasn't sure if the BPA becomes an issue when microwaved.
