Mat. pant sizes?

Okay... I'm thinking of taking the plunge and buying maternity pants. (Yes, I know, it's kind of early, but I'm needing new jeans due to my current ones tearing, and am thinking 'Why not buy comfy ones?') And my question is... Has anyone experienced Gap or Old Navy's maternity pants and do the sizes run small? I'm between sizes naturally and have long legs, so pant shopping is horrendous for me and I can only imagine it'd be 10x more fun now that I'm pregnant!

So! Should I order the smaller size or the bigger one?

TIA!! Smile

Re: Mat. pant sizes?

  • I think you should definitely try them on in the store. ?All maternity pants seem to fit me differently. ?I went into the stores and bought a pair first and then ordered online once I knew what fit me best.

  • I think if you order over a certain amount, shipping is free. So order them both and see what works. Then just return the extras to a store.

  • i have never bought regular old navy jeans, so im not sure if all their jeans run this way... but most of my regular jeans are a size 4 or 6. the old navy maternity jeans i bought are a size 8 (and havent gained any weight) - they're the low rise elastic waist ones. they fit pretty good (not a whole lot of room to grown). so my thought is that their stuff runs small. hth
  • I agree w/ pp who said to order both (multiple) sizes online and then just return what doesn't work. That's what I did last pregnancy because there were no maternity Gap/ONs around my area..

For sizing, I've found that there is a difference between regular and long (lengths). The longs tend to run larger then regulars. With Gap, I ordered a few different pairs last time and ended up with 2 regulars and could only wear them w/ flip flops or low sneakers (I'm 5'7"). The 2 longs were too large on me. Weird. This time I ordered a pair of ON 2 longs and they fit perfectly. Regularly in jeans I wear a 26. Normally at Gap, for dress pants, I wear a 2 (I've never bought at pair of their regular jeans so I can't compare that.. but at Limited I wear a 2, occasionally 4 and all my other pants are the designer/European sizing, 26). HTH.

  • I wore Old Navy jeans with my first pg and had to buy a size smaller as most my weight was belly and the maternity sizes are roomier all around. That being said, Old Navy or Gap never fit me perfectly and I was constantly pulling them up. This pg I will be buying designer jeans only since jeans are what I live in, there are a lot on ebay and they can be sold after pg if in good condition.
  • They just won't fit you right now.  I would go to a secondhand store and get a pair to get you by, or just work with what you have for a few more weeks. I made the mistake of buying mat. pants too early, and when my belly was big enough they didn't even fit me right.

I agree with this. I made the mistake with my son of buying maturnity clothes way too early and they didn't fit me when my belly grew a little more. I wouldn't waste your money just yet, give it just a little time. Try a bella band with your current pants.
