I heard it pronounced both ways. For example, I believe that Eva Longoria pronounces her's Ee-vah and Eva Mendez is Ay-vah.
ditto.
This. I saw an interview with Eva Longoria where she mentioned being unnerved by the mispronunciation of her name... she does pronounce it Eeee-va, not Ay-vah.
Married in 2008 - DD born in 2010 - EDD 6.15.2012!
I may hear A-va more than E-va, but that's because of A-va Longoria, who is married to Tony Parker, who plays for the Spurs.
i think hers is actually E-va but i'm glad i'm not the only one who hears A-va a lot. i don't like the E pronunciation, but i like the eva spelling better than ava.

Eeee-vah. though there is a dog in my neighborhood whose owners say it Ay-vah.
Ditto to this. We have Eva picked out if this child is a girl..and we will pronounce it Eeee-vah like pp mentioned. If I wanted it pronounced Ay-vah..I would spell it Ava. JMHO.
I mostly hear them both pronounced Ay-va. I believe that Eva mostly is used in Spanish cultures and then it would certainly be pronounced Ay-va. If I had never heard Ava, I would pronounce it like "Abba" (with a v).
It depends on what language the name is pronounced. Latin languages often pronounce "e" like "a". Take the word/name Ella. In English it would be "L-aa" but in Spanish it would be "Ay-a."

Yep. Once again, it completely depends on the language. If I was in Spanish class, it would be "Ay-va" but, in English, it would be "Eee-va." There's no right or wrong answer.
Re: pronunciation of eva
Eeee-vah.
I say Ava as A (long a)-vah.
Eva = eeeeeeeeeeva
Ava = aaaaaaaaaava
I hear them both equally.

Ditto. I think the Ay-va pronounciation is more common for those with HIspanic descent.
