Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Question from 2nd Tri-Need Registry Advice

I know you ladies must get asked this all the time on these boards, but can you tell me what you wished you had/had not registered for?  We are working on our registry and want to keep it as simple as possible, but everything we look at makes it sound like that product is the most important thing to have!

Any suggestions you have would be terrific!

Re: Question from 2nd Tri-Need Registry Advice

  • Well, big stuff, little stuff?

For big stuff--a jumperoo! My mom eventually got one for my guy when he turned 3 months, and it's a life saver. Of course, you can always get one later, but whatever. :)

For not so big stuff... A CARRIER. Any kind will do. Mine is a Snugli. At the beginning, babies just like to be held, but sometimes, YOU NEED YOUR ARMS, hahaha. :)

Smaller stuff... hmmmmm. IF you plan to use them (I know not eveyrone does)... SOOTHERS. Or as Americans seem to call them, Pacifiers. We've had almost a dozen in our house, and they always seem to go missing. We're down to three, not including the hospital one that I'm keeping as a keepsake. Aw. :)

  • Things I would not register for:

Pacifiers-I got a ton of soothies, and come to find out, dd did not like them.. Only avent for her..

Bottles-Same reason.. we got a ton of playtex drop ins, and she uses dr. browns now for tummy

clothes-you will get a ton, do not register for them

Things I would-carrier, swing, play mat (love my fisher price rainforest)

  • get some kind of wrap/sling/carrier.
  • If BFing- My Brest Friend pillow.  I like this so much better than the boppy.  I use the boppy for propping up DS for pictures.  Or as a pillow for me.

Moby wrap.  Invaluable for the first 8 weeks since most babies just want to be held and never put down.  You get to be hands free this way and it saves your back.

    Bottle drying rack.

Bottle warmer- we warm DS's bottles to room temp, not warm, but it's a whole lot easier and more convenient than putting it in a bowl of water especially once your baby starts eating more than a few ounces.

If FFing, Dr. Brown's Formula mixing pitcher, or something similar like the one from Pampered Chef.

    GAS DROPS.

Don't get a wipes warmer.  We don't use a diaper pail either, just a regular garbage can with a lid, no smells.  Super stinky diapers go outside asap.  We aso don't use a sterilzer- just boiled everything the first time around.

Halo Sleepsack with Swaddle/SwaddleMes- loooove this now that DS is too big for receiving blankets.  They didn't work so well when DS was first born, but now he is in them every night.

    Miracle Blanket

Receiving blankets- the hospital ones are the best for swaddling.

    Babylegs- love them, screw pants.

Side snap tees - good for in the beginning when baby is so floppy

Snap n Go- makes going anywhere so easy

  • What I love:

    FB Rainforest Activity Gym

    Swing--she just started liking this

    PnP--we use as a bassinet

Snap and Go --great to leave in the car, even if it is fugly

Diaper Genie...I like mine, but a trash can could work

    SwaddleMes?

What I haven't used as much:

Bouncer --only because DD hated hers

  • Oh and if you want to get a mobile, get a Tiny Love one, DS LOVES his.

  • didn't need: 1) ultimate crib sheets - haven't used them yet.  maybe they will be a lifesaver in the future but right now it's a waste.  I wish I would've waited to see if I needed them and bought them when I did need them.  2) changing pad pads (boppy makes them), washed once on low and the things were ruined. 3.) too many sheets - you don't need more than 2-3 because you do laundry all the time anyway.  you need just a spare. 4) 4 oz bottles - only good for the first month/month and a half.

loved/needed:  activity mat, boppy's (not for nursing, for lounging), a co sleeper (never say never, a couple hours sleep is worth it), mini fridge for night bottles upstairs, miracle blanket or sleepsack swaddles, FP seahorse, a comfy chair for the nursery, mixing pitcher for Formula, baby sized hangers
