If your child had this, did they have to have surgery to correct it? If so, what did it entail and recovery time. Daughter has her consult next week and I am a little nervous.
Why ask why, when you know you're going to get a smart-ass answer
Both DS's had one at birth. DS1's went away on it's own. DS2 still has it, but nothing has been said about surgery.

We were hoping it would go away and it still might since she hasn't turned 3 yet. Our pedi said from his experience by age 3...it is what it is so...wouldn't be over concerned appearence wise but it has been infected twice from her playing with it. Gross I know but kids are so curious and she knows her's is different than her brothers.

DD#2 has one. We were told the same as the pp. If it's not gone by 4/5, they'll talk about surgery. I think he told me it was nearly gone at her 12 month appointment or at least that it was smaller but her belly button still looks weird. Wonder if her button will always look funny... Anyway, my cousin had one and had to have the surgery when he was 5ish. It was was no big deal. Never heard about any getting infected or anything, though.
