  • Chasity....definitely not.  I was shocked when there was another Chasity, a Chastity, a Casey and a Cassie at my church.  I liked having a different name, and strangely the "chastity belt" joke never came up for me (then again I was quite chaste and maybe they only use it in irony).

  • My name's Miranda. I used to go by Mandy. I didn't meet another Miranda until 6th grade when there was one other girl in my class with my name. I changed my name to Miranda then because I guess my 6th grade self didn't like that someone else would be known by it. She did spell her name differently, Meranda. I don't like the spelling.

I've noticed that more young girls are named Miranda, which I think is weird. Hearing my name being called and directed at someone else is still kind of strange for me because I didn't grow up around a lot of Mirandas.

  • My mother picked my name because it had been her favorite for years. She didn't pay attention to the trends. ?While I did end up as one of SEVEN Jennifers in one period of Social Studies in the 7th grade... yes, SEVEN of us.... I can't say I hate my name. I disliked being Jennifer P. for my whole life, but part of that was that my last initial was P - which is so commonly associated with what it sounds like = pee! ?So that sort of sucked. But I do like my name a lot now. I have gone by Jenn for most of the last 15 years, and in college lived with two different Jennifers so I'm just used to it. It forced us all to have creative and fun nicknames, and to be honest, that made me feel like I had more of an identity than those who didn't have the nicknames! As an ironic side note - my brother's name was #1 the year he was born too - also not something my mom ever wanted, but it was her favorite boy name. she's happy she made her choices that way and considers it flattering that so many people agreed with her ;-) ?
