Trying to Get Pregnant

note to self, going to Dr.'s=pointless (vent)

I am so frusterated right now, I could just scream!

I went to my PCP on my lunch hour in hopes of at least starting to figure out why my mid-cycle spotting has turned into af-like bleeding.  I am concerned that this crazy dizziness and moderate mid-cycle bleeding are related to my hormones, possibly a progesterone deficiency.  So I'm thinking, ok, maybe some simple bloodwork and meds if needed and we'll see what happens.

Nope.  I get the standard "You haven't been trying long enough" and "Your cycles are still regulating themselves" and of course the kicker "You need to relax, You're trying too hard!"  Oh, and she tested my urine for a UTI and pregnancy, this is after I told her I would have just O'd on Sat so it's too early for implantation (and way too early for HCG levels).

Now, I understand that it isn't considered infertility until you've been TTC for 1+ yrs.  I understand that my DH and I are still in the beginning stages, and that I was on BC for several years and thus my cycles for the 14 years previous to BC mean nothing now. But that does not mean I deserve to be treated like an idiot!  She actually reminded me to chart temps and CM , when I had brought my charts in for reference!  And when I mentioned a hormone imbalance, she looks at me and says "Well you're having periods so you have all the hormones."  Well Duh!  Hence the words imbalance and deficiency.

I really should have known better than to even go today.  After all, when I went there the last 2 times (since Jan) because of this crazy dizziness that I've been having, they simply chalk it up to dehydration and call it unexplainable.  I think what has ticked me off the most is that the practioners just sort of nod and smile at me without really listening to my concerns.

So I've pretty much decided I'm only going there if I'm coughing up a lung or something and I know it's bacterial.  What a waste of time, money, and energy.  Now I get to decide if I want to wait a few more months, or if I want to follow my gut and go to a specialist.

And I'm sorry this post is so darn long, I just needed to vent, apparently alot.  Thanks for listening!

  • And after reading my post again, I realize that I probably sound like a complete and total a$$ to those of you who have been dealing with infertility.  I am sorry if my rant offends you, feel free to flame away. Embarrassed

  • sorry to hear that. Dr.'s can be mean sometimes.
  • Sorry you had to deal with that!

Have you seen other dr's for your dizziness yet?  I have had crazy come and go dizziness for over a year and have yet to figure out the reason.  I've seen my GP, had an MRI, saw an ENT, a cardiologist... they're all kind of stumped.  It makes me glad to know that I've had all the tests done--dizziness can be a symptom of a number of things, including MS--so I would encourage you to get checked out as well just to make sure it isn't anything pressing.

    Good luck!

  • I'm sorry. It sounds like you need to find a new doc

  • There is no need to go to a speicalist yet but I would definitely look for a new PCP.

  • Oh, and it can also be related to sinuses... which may be my problem.  I'm still sussing it out! :)

  • It sounds to me like you need a new doctor. She doesn't seem to be listening to you.
  • if i were you, i would either demand the testing that you feel you need or switch to another dr & get the testing done. PCP are basically idiots imo and they want to push people in & Out as quickly as possible, because its the only way they make money. its a disgusting thing imo, but ive witnessed it all too often. my point is that you know your body & if you feel something as wrong, keep pushing until you find the answers.
  • This may sound strange but have you been to the dentist lately? If you have not it could be your teeth. FIL was getting dizzy randomly and as soon as they extracted his problem tooth he was fine. GL

  • Get a new PCP.  While you haven't been TTC for that long, the symptoms you are experiencing (heavy mid-cycle bleeding, passing out feelings, etc.) need to be checked out.

  • I agree with PP, I don't think it's necessary to see a specialist yet but definitely time to find a new doctor. A PCP can run bloodwork to test your FH/LH levels and for other things.
  • Ladies, Thank you for listening. You are awesome.  And full of good advice!

Shell1016- I do go to a dentist regularly, but I'll ask at my next cleaning appt if my symptoms could be related.  Thanks!

AbsoluteLM- How awful that you've had all that done and they can't find the cause of your dizziness!  Hopefully you all don't give up and keep looking.  When I get my worst bouts, my blood pressure gets low (for me) at about 106ish/60ish.  Again, Dr. not concerned. Tongue Tied

4realyo- You're right about PCP offices.  The practicioners I work for are actually pretty competant and take as much time as they can with patients, but the higher up are always talking about numbers.  It really sucks sometimes.

  • first of all, I take no offense at your comments about?infertility; I personally knew at 7 months trying that something was wrong and just had to wait it out to see the RE. Also, you need to find a new doctor asap. If you are having heavy, breakthrough bleeding, especially if it is very painful can be a sign of endometriosis or poly cystic ovary syndrome. Also, I have a period ever 30-35 days and have a hormone imbalance; just because you get it doesn't mean you're okay. I once had a crap doctor like that who told me my first BFP and subsequent declining beta's were a "fluke" and not a miscarriage, and got the heck out of that office. Do the same, and you will do yourself and your future baby a favor. Good luck!
  • The reason she is telling you to wait a year is because most insurances will not cover any testing until it's been a year if you are under 35 years old.

You may want to see your gynocologist in the future.

We were just talking about this at lunch, and 2 women that were there had to go to a specialist to have the "chrystals" in their ear canals realligned and they had a remarkable improvement.  Another woman there was diagnosed with viral virtigo and is on aprescription.  Just thought I'd throw that out there.

    I second this!

  • Good lord, what an idiot.

    Find a new PCP, stat.

Has anyone ever checked your thyroid? That could be a culprit for all of the mentioned symptoms.

It can never hurt to just have a "general health panel" which is some basic bloodwork like a CBC, basic metabolic panel, lipid panel, and throw a few hormone levels in there.

    Geez. I'm sorry. :(

  • Oh, also forgot to mention to see your OB for the bleeding, and they might even run the other tests I mentioned.

TTC for a year is only if you don't have any reason to believe there's a problem. If you are having irregular bleeding, there is a problem, and they need to check it out.

  • Ladies, thanks again for all your replies, advice, and common sense!

I had a chat with the NP at our office, he said a lot of the same things you gals did, and recommended I go to see a cardiologist first and get checked out at my gyn and then go from there.  I still think the dizziness is hormone-related, but I don't want to miss a cardiac problem because I've got tunnel vision when it comes to TTC issues.  I've got some calls to make, starting with the insurance company to find out what my options are.

The next time some idiot female starts complaining about GP and what blitches we have on here and how snark/rudeness is all we're capable of, I am soo going to have some words to say.  I really appreciate everyone who has taken the time to read and reply.  You women rock!
