Twin moms...

if one twin was discharged before the other one, did you bring him/her to the NICU?  I am so excited that Carter is coming home tomorrow but so sad to leave his little brother in the NICU.    I know we can bring him but its a long ride to the hospital and I dont know if taking him every day is a good idea..

Re: Twin moms...

  • My guys were discharged 24 hours apart (it was a surprise!) and so I luckily never had to deal with this.  But our NICU's policy was that we were not allowed to bring the discharged baby in to visit the still hospitalized baby because he could be carrying in germs.  I would have had to have daycare arrangements for Cameron in order to visit Evan.
  • At our NICU once you take a baby home, you are not allowed to bring it back into the NICU since it has been exposed to germs. Luckily we brought our other twin home 24 hours later.

  • Gaby was released 1.5 months before Alaina and I brought her to visit a couple of times when I didn't have a sitter.  Had they been released closer together, I wouldn't have chanced it.
  • No, I chose to leave Joseph home with my DH or MIL.  I did not want to expose him to germs in the hospital and I wanted the one-on-one time with my DD.
  • dylan came home a week prior to cassidy's homecoming. ?it was had to "leave her behind". ?we felt really sad and guilty. ?we weren't allowed to bring her back onto the unit, so we alternated...i went to the nicu in the morning and DH went in the evening...while the other person stayed home with dylan. ?it was only a week, so DH's work was understanding and we figured it out. ?
  • My daughter was in the hospital 34 days longer than my son. My DH & I would alternate between visiting my daughter and taking care of my son. We usually took him to the hospital on the weekends and I took him a couple of times during the week.

We lived really close to the hospital though. I hope this time goes quickly for you.

  • Joey was just discharged today and Nathan was discharged last Thursday.  Last Friday and Saturday, DH stayed home with Nathan while I went to the NICU.  From Sunday-today, Nathan did come back to the NICU with me to visit Joey for 5-6 hours/day.  They were great and kept a crib set up for him so he was pretty much just like a patient again.

  • Our Carter was in the NICU for a week after Will & I were discharged. ?We left Will with grandma until she had to go back home. ?After that we checked with the NICU staff who "ok'd" Will to visit with us because he is a sibling. ?It was really nice to be there with DH and both babies because it was the only "whole family" time we had. ?That being said, Will and I only came for one visit a day. ?DH went to visit Carter at least once a day without us (my c/s recovery was pretty rough and I wasn't ok'd to leave the house that often). ?It's hard to be home without both of your babies. ?I hope this time goes by fast for you!
  • My DD came home 5 days before DS.  We were allowed to bring her with us, but we chose not to (except when we went to bring Bennett home).  We'd take turns going to see him and my FIL was staying with us to help out so he'd watch my DD while we went up to the hospital (we only lived about 10 minutes away).

I hope the time goes by quickly for you and your DC is home soon!!
