Anyone live near Tampa?

Morning ladies. I was going to post this on the local board, but there is next to no activity on it, so I thought I'd try here. We are taking a trip (with DD) at the end of April to the Tampa area. I think we're going to go to Busch Gardens one day. Any other suggestions for inexpensive things to do with DD while we are there? We don't have any interest in Disney at this point, though. We will have a car, so we have no problem driving a little to get somewhere. Also any great restaurant suggestions would be great! Thanks so much!

Re: Anyone live near Tampa?

  • My parents live in Venice (about an hour and a half south of Tampa).  They have a list a mile long of things to do with the girls in Tampa and around that area.  Email me and I'll get it from Mom.  erin at erinkathleen.com
  • There's lots to do! Check out this link:

I would suggest the zoo and the aquarium. You can also drive a little ways to Orlando to do some of the non-disney stuff, like Sea World, Discovery Cove, etc. Those kinds of things you're usually too exhausted or don't have time to do on a regular "disney trip".

Definately check out everything on the CVB website above, and I would suggest requesting the Visitor Guide. Florida is really good about having thorough CVBs.

  • I definitely second going to Lowry Park Zoo.  If you go to Sea World, I think you can skip the Florida Aquarium (sometimes I'm in the minority, but I was NOT impressed with the aquarium when I went so only went once...the zoo and Sea World were much better IMO).

MOSI with the children's museum is great too.  There are lots of parks too.

  • If you are in the Brandon area there is a great place called Chedders to eat. Not like a high class place but great food, always busy and dirt cheap for the amount of food you get. It's on Causeway or very close by.

If you have any possibility of getting an evening out without DD then you and your DH have GOT to go to 'Howl at the Moon'. It's in Channelside and it is an awesome dueling piano place, I don't know if they serve food or not but it's right next to a place called the supper club, so you could go from one to the next. Have fun!
