Babies: 0 - 3 Months

When to transition car seats?

(I'm asking this because we will be travelling internationally when C is 6.5 months old..)

My infant carrier says that it will hold her until she is 30 lbs or 30 inches long... She's 11 lbs now, so we've got a ways.. but when do most babies transition to the bigger baby carseat?

Re: When to transition car seats?

  • we transitioned DS about 2 weeks ago. We travel OOS a lot, and he was 2 inches away from out growing his old car seat, so we made the switch. he LOVES his new car seat, and it looks 100x more comfortable than the old one.

  • I only use the infant one now if the weather is horrible outside, otherwise I use his big boy seat, since he likes it way more. He can see outside and will stay awake and look around without crying... which is a new concept for him, lol. You should be fine, since your infant carrier goes to 30 lbs when she's 6.5 months unless she has a super major growth spurt in there. DS is now 15 lbs at 4.5 months and 26inches.

Do you check or carry the convertable car seat with you in the airport?

  • Uggh, we'd have to bring the stupid infant carseat base if we brought the infant carseat.. so I might as well do the convertable carseat anyways, huh?

i would think so, just because regardless you will have your hands full, and the convertable carseat would be much easier to carry i think than a car seat, AND a base. JMO

You can safetly put an infant carrier in a car without the base.  Check the manual and it will tell you how to put it in there.  I find this is easier if I am going in someone elses car than switching the base to their car, then back to mine.

Not true. Infant carseats can be used without the base.

  • i would think the infant seat would be easier because you can put it in a stroller or snap n go or whatever and put her in it and just push her around. but, that is just me.
