Bed Rest has begun

So I have a UTI and was in L&D last night for a few hours with extreme kidney pain.  We also found out that my cervix is now down to 1.6 and I am 1cm dialated.  I have been on terb for a few weeks now for contractions and I had a feeling bed rest was coming but I'm not excited about it.  I'm really worried about work mainly and I have both of my showers the next 2 weekends.  I know it is best to be down and keep him in a little longer but it's kind of tough to take it all in.  Luckily we were able to wait this long before going on bed rest and my ob takes people off at 35 weeks and from then on it's just a wait and see.  For those of you on it now or in the past how did you pass the time?  Was it awful?

  • my friend was on bedrest and just loaded up on magazines, books and fun dvds. hopefully it will go smoothly and you will get to 35 weeks soon. you are almost there. hang in there!
  • I am so sorry to hear that you're on bedrest - but 35 weeks will be here before you know it!  Just a suggestion - could you get a TV series on DVD and watch from the beginning?  Like Sex and the City - that could pass some time and be entertaining for sure!
  • I was on modified bedrest but here's what I did:

I watched 10 seasons of Friends on DVD, read some magazines and talked on the phone to people I hadn't been able to catch up with because of working all the time.  Dh and I had dinner in bed several nights while watching movies, that was fun.

I'm sorry you are having to go through this and I hope it works and baby stays put a few weeks longer.

  • oh honey i'm so sorry about the UTI and the cervix.... :(  bedrest is def hard, but SOOOOOOO worth it.  i don't think i EVER would have gotten this far had i not been on BR.

here's what i have done: all my TYCs from my showers, and i also preaddressed all 100+ birth announcement envelopes.  some other odds and ends that i needed to get done, etc.  then i spend a couple hours on the nest most days, on FB, etc. and i talk on the phone a lot and watch LOTS of tv.  i dvr tons of random stuff, like people's court, old epis of frasier, etc. and pretty much everything that's on at night ;)

you will find stuff to do - the first couple weeks were hard for me but after a while i fell into a nice pattern and time started to fly.

GL honey - and also there is a BR check-in on the high risk board.

  • It's hard!  I am the type of person who is always up and about ...even just picking up or starting a load of laundry seems like fun to me now!  I usually sleep in, shower off, move to the couch, nest, check email and fb, watch lots of tlc and hgtv, nap, read, and do word searches!  35 weeks will be here before you know it!  The evenings are now getting miserable for me because I just am not tired...and at night I toss and turn all night.  But, it is all worth it for the little baby!
  • Oh I hope bedrest works and your cervix doesn't shorten anymore.  I was on bedrest with Reed for awhile and it was hard not to do anything around the house when I was off work, but it will be worth it if you can stay pregnant for a few more weeks.  Did they give you the steroid shots?  Take care!
  • Hope it goes quickly for you!!!! He needs just a little longer!

  • I am going on week 10 of bedrest.  The first month was pretty strict and after that they lightened up a little bit.  I still do very little all day though.  I sometimes wonder how I pass the time b/c I don't feel like I've accomplished much!  I watch TV a lot, read, go online, I did some cross stitch things for the babies, I learned how to knit, I made scrapbook pages and tons of baby thank you cards.  I also try to sleep during the day if I can.  I do not sleep well at night at all, so I try to get in a few hours during the day if it is possible.

I hope the weeks go by fast for you.  32 weeks is a huge milestone, you are almost there!

  • I was on bedrest for 6 weeks and my main piece of advice is not to watch tv all day.  On the days that I just watched tv I was so bummed and restless.  Instead read books, write out recipes on notecards, do any kind of organizing you can.  Reading was huge for me, I read all 4 twilight books in 4 days.  You'll make it!
