Anyone ever use honey as a topical antibiotic?

Someone on FB suggested it for the cut I gave myself this morning on a serrated bread knife (on my thumb---effing HURTS!!)

I've read a little bit about it and it used to be used to draw out impurities and it has some healing qualities, but I want to know if anyone has ever used it and found it makes a difference (as far as you can tell, obviously)?

I've never heard of that. It can't hurt though right?  It's natural so I wouldn't think it would make it worse.
