Since it is Tuesday, can I ask a newbie question?

Okay, so I am very very guilty of taking my temperature more than once and now I am feeling the insanity and confusion of it all. I just get so OCD around O time that I go crazy and can't sleep/wake up multiple times at night. How much does waking up in the middle of the night really effect your temperature.

I usually go to bed at 9pm with DH (yes, we are old farts). Usual temp time is 3:00am (when DH  gets up for work). I wake up at 1:30, take temperature, fall back to sleep, take temperature again at 3am. Which temp would you use...the one after 3hrs consecutive sleep or the one at the normal wake time despite waking up to take temp and falling back to sleep.

I am googling "sleep and body temperature" like crazy. Sorry it is so long.

  • take the first one...since you go to bed at 9pm you have your 3 hours in by 1:30 and if you do that everyday, its normal for you!

  • Have you seen the FF Temperature Corrector?  It has a function where you can input two temps and the time you took them and your usual temp time.  Sometimes I used that just to see how big of a difference there is.

    In general, though, I use the first temp.  I had the same issues as you last cycle, but this month I started taking just one Tylenol PM before bed.  It helps a TON!

    Yeah, I took 2 tylenol PM one night and it brought down my temp...at least that's what I thought since it brings down fevers. Since I wasn't takign Tylenol PM all cycle, I didn't use the temperature.

  • Okay well you need to stop first of all, if you wake up for a second at 1:30, go back to sleep immediately dont temp! If your not falling right back to sleep that's one thing but it sounds like your enabling yourself.

    You need to be consistent, either change your temp time to 1:30 or stop taking your temp when you wake up for a minute. I toss and turn some mornings or wake up, see the clock and fall right back to sleep and my temps aren't usually irratic enough that anyone would know!

     I know I need to stop, but I can't fall back to sleep so I tell myself to take my temp. I think I may take a break from charting next cycle. It wasn't this bad when I first started charting but now I am letting charting drive me insane. It my personality...I always get worked up over things for nothing.
