My mom instinct sucks!

Poor H!  2 1/2 weeks ago I took him to urgent care and he had an ear infection in his right ear.  They gave him Amoxicillin for 10 days.  He finished it the day we went on vacation.  A few days ago he stopped STTN and was super fussy.  He had a rash down his back and a fever but I figured it was because he is getting his first teeth and all 4 of the front ones at once.  DH convinced me to take him to urgent care since we are flying home in a couple days.  His ear infection is still in his right ear and he has an even worse one in his left ear.  I feel so bad.  He is teething and has a double ear infection.  He must have a high pain tolerance because he was still a pretty happy baby.  Now he is on a new antibiotic.

So he has pretty much had an ear infection for a month.  It is his first one.  Has anyone else had trouble getting it to go away?  Any tips to keep them away?  We were letting him drink his bottle laying down but now we are propping him up.
