Success after IF

** MrsK&C and RoaringRock **

Thanks so much for the advice and insight.  Here is a pic of what I found on-line that reminds me of Jack's head - - the image on the top left.  Jack's is less severe but definitely has the one sided flatness in back - and a corresponding forehead bulge in front.  It is spotting the forehead bulge that has me upset, because that's facial assymetry - and I feel like it's my responsibility to get this fixed for him, you know?   I have a feeling my pedi is going to tell me "don't worry about it, it's normal, it'll fix itself" but I still want to see a specialist.  I won't be OK with not doing anything unless a specialist says so.  And even then I probably still won't be OK - but will obsess and worry until I see noticeable improvement.  I just don't want to not do anything - and then lose this crucial window of time.  Oh well.  We'll see what pedi says - I'm going in Monday the 6th - mid-morning.  I will of course report back afterward!!

  • because of this recent back to sleep/sids campaign, pedis are now just learning about plagiocephaly. I wouldn't be surprised if you got that reaction from your pedi. I suggest taking this into your own hands. the bulging of jack's forehead definitely concerns me. I will do a search this evening for you to see if there is a doc band clinic near where you live. I think there is one in paramus nj. let me look into it. I do know there is another major clinic (not cranial tech) also with branches all around the us.

fyi, ginny looked like the top left photo but not quite as severe.

  • I did a search on cranial technologies and there isn't one close to Pittsburgh.  But I think there is a craniofacial group at Pittsburgh's Children's Hospital that are licensed doc band providers ... so I am going to push to see a specialist there.

It's ALWAYS something, isn't it?  Ugh!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Those kind of pics are what sent me into a tizzy as well. I was adamant that we see a specialist since my pedi was really dismissive about it. I did a lot of research in the meantime and while I felt ok leaving the specialist, I still wasn't sure. If we didn't do everything we could or should for her, we'd never forgive ourselves. Now I do feel better about it in general, but I think that's partly because I am starting to see a little improvement. I have some pics of Sabrina's head like the ones above from Christmas time and some I just took over the weekend and there is a definite improvement. Not big, but progress. I wish I had pushed for the specialist earlier, not that the outcome would have been different but I would have felt better. I know my pedi isn't a plagiocephaly specialist, and while 95% of them may round out without intervention, what if Sabrina was one of the 5%? I'm happy it seems to be improving...slowly, but that's ok.

  • btw, 7 months old is not too late if you are still interested or worried. many kids at ginny's clinic had serious teeth! I am still on the fence with continuing with the second head band. I am constantly staring at and evaluating ginny's little head. one day I'm happy we are done with the therapy and the next I feel we are doing the wrong thing by not moving forward with more treatment. grrrrr. I did learn that most heads will not round out on their own. yes, you might see some improvement but most cases need physical shaping. it's a gamble.

ginny had the doc band brand (say that 10 times fast.) I'd call the children's hospital tomorrow lucy, to see if you schedule a consult.
