Which way do you put your silverware in the dishwasher? My parents do it one way and I do it the opposite way, though I can't remember which way they did it growing up, but I'm pretty sure it's not the way they do it now....
I put mine w/ the handle at the top (tines down on a fork) which I thought was "normal" until I just looked at the dishwasher at work... lol
Now curiosity has the best of me. It seems gross on both accounts to do it the other way to me. Touching clean silverware when you unload and touching dirty loading. But maybe I'm the odd one...

Re: Most Random Poll Ever...
If its a sharp knife, handle up.
Otherwise, I just toss 'em in.
i see your point about touching them, my mom always said when i was growing up that they wouldn't get as clean if the handles were up and the part you eat off down at the bottom.
I see her point because sometimes I find gunk down at the bottom of the tray thing

LOL So true some days, er, most days!
I guess I just always GRAB silverware by the handle when I am doing the dishes, so I naturally put them in as such instead of fooling w/ turning them or grabbing the tine, spoon, etc. part.

We put ours handle up and there is no problem with getting them clean. Plus we always rinse off before they hit the diswasher too. Very interesting poll!
Gotta keep it going around here.. you know, fork polls AND religious polls
How funny that the poll is 50/50!
We always did it tines down (handle up) when I was growing up.
But then my parents got a new dishwasher where you're supposed to put each piece of silverware in it's own little slot in the silverware basket, so they started doing tines up (and handle down) for everything except for sharp knives.
It annoyed me, and I kept doing it my way, until I recently got a new dishwasher with the same little plastic pieces in the silverware basket.
I think that handle down (tines up) makes more sense. Your silverware is more likely to get clean if you have the dirty parts up and exposed to more water. Also, with the little separaters in the silverware basket, everything is pretty separated. I think it gets much cleaner!
I LOVE this poll!!!!! For me it is handle down...I have a system. The bowls have to be a certain way, silverware has to be a certain way, plates etc. Drives me crazy (I am so type A!!!!) when my hubby just throws them in there.
On the other hand I am most of the time just thankful when he actually does them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
