help with kid's clothes sizing/pattern

I was planning to make our niece a cute summer dress with matching bloomers that I will take when we go visit them in May.  I bought a pattern like this:

I called SIL and she said her daughter was 30" long and 25lbs. at her 9 mo. appointment.  It won't be warm for another few months so she will be a little over 1 yr. old when she can wear the dress.

Check out this (pdf of the pattern sizing).

Too small - right?

Re: help with kid's clothes sizing/pattern

  • eek.  her new email said she wears 18mo. at the Gap and 24 mo. at Carter.  I think I could probably just modify the pattern and make it bigger?  The toddler patterns looked too grown up.  :(

  • No.  If she's chunky. cut a stip of paper an extra inch or tow (depending on her chest measurement, and add to the middle of the front and back to add width.  If she's tall, add the needed length at the "add length" mark on the pattern.

yeah I think I can do that.  I'm pretty good at sewing with out a pattern for myself.  The kids sizing thing throws me off.  I had no idea the precious little baby I met a few months ago got so big!  haha.
