So I learned the last time I went to the doctor that I have O negitive blood type. Any one else dealing with the rh factor? I have sone some reading on it. So I am concerned about what my body is doing to this baby.
I am A-. I'll be getting the rhogam shot at 28 wks (i think that's when...) for sure. My doctor explained it to me in a way that I wasn't scared about the blood type thing. Google can be pretty scary if you are reading it by yourself!
You'll get a shot if there's any bleeding... I am O-, but with my last pregnancy I had DH get tested and he is A- so I declined the shot. When I switched OB's they wanted me to get a shot b/c I had a subchorionic bleed, but when I told her DH was A- she awkwardly asked if I was sure he was the father, then said it was unnecessary.

I am RH- and there really isn't anything to worry about these days. You will have a shot at 28 weeks and another after the baby is born (if the baby is +). These shots stop your body from creating antibodies which fight against the baby. Having the shot after birth prevents anything from happening to any future babys you may have.
I'm O- as well. The main thing that you need to know is to be cautious of a situation where your blood may come in contact with the baby's; any vaginal bleeding for example. Other than that, the rhogam shot that you'll get will prevent your blood from developing antibodies against the baby's blood and you can have multiple healthy pregnancies. I was concerned at first, but there are a lot of ladies on here with negative blood types who have had very healthy babies:)
I have a negative blood type too and I was freaked out at first and I agree that the internet does not help. I will have the rhogam shot at 28 weeks and another right after delivery. They are keeping an eye on my antibodies throughout the pregnancy and said there is nothing to worry about. Women with negative blood types have babies everyday with no issues. Now doctors know how to treat the condition and there should be minimal risk to you or your baby, so try not to stress out and discuss your worries/concerns with your doctor. I did, and it made me feel so much better!!!
Thank you for all your responces. I just worry to much sometimes about these things. I have had a miscarrage when I was 18 and didnt know it till I went in to the doctor. I never had the shot the first time around so Another reason I am worried. My doctor did mention the shot this time around but I believe he said I would get it the next time I went in.
I'm also O neg and will get the Rhogham shot at 28 weeks.
Generally, for a first pregnancy, this won't cause any issues. But if your baby is a positive blood type it can affect future pregnancies?ie. your body treats the baby as a "virus" and the antibodies will cause you to miscarry. But that would be with a SECOND pregnancy (if the first baby was positive) and only if you didn't get the Rhogham shot.
My mom dealt with this 39 years ago when she was pregnant with me. It's an annoyance (the shot) but that's about it.

I wouldn't worry about not having the shot after your miscarriage, any antibodies would have shown up on your initial blood work.
don't worry. you're body isn't 'doing' anything to the baby. as long as your aware of being o- and get the shot, you should be fine. i'm o- too, and from what my doctor says and the reading i've done it's really not that big of a deal as long as you're aware.
FYI if the father is negative, you don't need the shot. We are having my DH's blood typed next appointment & if his blood type is negative too, I won't have to get the shot.
As said before by a ton of - blooded bumpies... Just get your shot at 28 weeks then after delivery and all should be fine. My Mom warned me of this because she dealt with it during pregnancy. It caused a ton more alarm in the 70's but "modern" medicine has worked wonders for us!
ok here it goes...I am A - with a neg antibodies and my DH is A +, so i am RH and this concerned the doctor i am still not sure as to why...i was pregant in august of 2008 and i had a miscarriage in october 2008, and the day i found out i had it, they gave me a shot of Rogam....and then the following day i had my DNC. Then in November i had my first cycle and then found out i was pregant in december so yea.. i thought because they didn't give me my shot was maybe one of the reasons i miscarried so i was making sure that i talked to my doctor. When i went in for my first visit i asked if he would go ahead and give me my first round of rogam he said sure, so i had my antibodies test it was still in my system, so i didn't need the shot at the time, but when he tested me again 4 weeks later it was gone so i have already had my rogam shot at 12 weeks and i will get another round of it at 28 weeks and then i should be good until i deliver, then at that point they will test the baby's blood and if he is postive i will have to have another shot of rogam no later than 72 hours after my baby is born, so i am good to go which made me happy... but they way i understand it to work is you body will treat you baby if he or she has the opposite blood type than you, as a forgin object like an infection and your body will fight to get ride of that infection, and so that is why we have to get the shot @ 28weeks or if you have spotting before then they will go ahead and give it to you. but not to worry it does not hurt your baby until it developes it's on blood supply, but that is if it has different blood than you!!!
