More frustration with feeding time - vent

I feel like all I post about is Natalie and food. I just don't know what to do. She is now refusing to eat purees (spits them back at me, which she never used to do). I've tried giving her a spoon to play with, moved her booster seat up the table, away from the table, etc. and nothing. I'm not having much luck with finger foods either. I've given her carrots, which she used to love in the purees, and she just sweeps them onto the floor. Last week we took her out to lunch and she tried everything we put in front of her, but at home it's a battle. She was loving the avocados I had on my salad but when I've tried giving them to her here, she wants nothing to do with them. The only things she'll consistently eat are puffs, Saltines and Goldfish, which makes me crazy since they have no nutritional value. I know she's still getting what she needs from formula but those days will soon be over. She used to be a really good eater and I have no idea what else to try. I've done everything that's been suggested on here - eggs, pieces of grilled cheese, bits of chicken, steamed veggies. Sometimes we'll go the entire day and all she'll have eaten are snack foods and I feel stressed that she's not getting anything good to eat.

  • I wish I had something helpful to say, but we have the exact same issue with DS. He loves to eat when we go out, but when we are at home he just refuses. Wont take anything off a spoon and throws bite sized food on the floor. He loves the Gerber yogurt melts, but I can only give him so many of those! I actually am still giving him formula so he can get the nutrition he isnt getting from solids. (And I have tried milk twice and he threw up every where both times). So sorry I dont have any advice, but if you figure something out please do let me know!

  • Hud is about the same. I met a friend for lunch the other day and he was eating everything I offered him. At home, puffed wheat and some freeze dried fruit bits. The public health nurse told me to just keep offering him bits and pieces, as he is still learning to eat. I was talking to some of my mommy friends IRL and a couple said their children didn't really take to food until after a year.

  • Thanks ladies. I'm glad to know I'm not alone and hopefully things will start to click for all of us soon. How funny that they all just want to eat when we go out! I guess they're trying to tell us something!
  • Yes that they prefer someone else's cooking to their own mothers! lol!

In related news, DS just ate a few bites of french toast.
