help...I need sleep!

My growing belly has made sleep very uncomfortable. I have always slept on my tummy or my back, and now that I'm trying to sleep on my sides more, well, it's just not working for me. I had a very restless night last night...tossing and turning...and I'm exhausted. Anyone have any suggestions on what might help?

Re: help...I need sleep!

  • In my birthing class we learned about different ways to sleep. If you just put a small pillow under 1 side of your back you are actually on your side but it still feels like you are on your back. Even a 15% angle helps to get the pressure off of your back. Maybe try that. You don't have to be all the way on your side to get the same benefits. Good luck!!! BTW- I'm still not much of a tummy sleeper I still find myself sleeping in my left side- so it might not come back as easily as you expect!

  • Do you have a body pillow yet? ?If I didn't have one of those, I would be a wreck right now. ?There's the snoogle, and then there are other variations of that.?
  • I had a real hard time as well, I found that putting a pillow between my legs and another one up against my torso to lean on helped.  I still had terrible hip pain but it was more tolerable if I slept like that.

Ditto this I still sleep on my side and I was always a back or tummy sleeper prior to getting PG

  • Have you tried a body pillow?  I bought a snoogle and it was probably the best investment of my pregnancy.  I loved that thing.  I couldn't sleep without it.  I think it was $40 or $50 at BRU, but totally worth it in my opinion.  I also slept with it for a couple of weeks PP waiting for my belly to shrink some.  I'd suggest trying something like that.

Good luck!  The bad party for you is that it's just going to get more and more uncomfortable.  I hope you find something that helps you sleep better, and soon!

  • no advice, but if you figure it out then please let me know!! I have been dealing with this since 25 weeks and it is exhausting! I guess taking a warm bath and making sure my tummy is full before I get in bed has helped some.

  • I hope you get some good suggestions b/c I haven't had a good nights sleep in weeks.  I have a snoogle but between hurting hips, falling asleep hands, and pee breaks I am up every hour and just don't get a real sleep pattern in.

Sorry, I'm no help, but I am equally miserable.

  • Oh yeah- I bought the Boppy Sleeping pillow and loved it once I got big. Actually it has worked WONDERFUL for DS for feeding because the regular Boppy didn't work for me since I'm short. And now that he's big it still works great when I give him a bottle- he just lays down on it!

  • I just got a simple body pillow from Target to wrap my legs and arms around and it has worked wonders.  Now if I could just figure out a way to not have to pee all night long..  :)

  • Hi Charla! So exciting that your belly is growing. I want to do a PIP post to see all the pregnant bellies. Ditto the body pillow/snoogle/boppy body pillow idea. I have always been a tummy sleeper, sometimes back and I just bought a snoogle yesterday. I haven't used it yet, because I want to get a cover for it but hopefully it helps. Costco.com has the Boppy body pillow with a removable cover for around $55, which includes shipping. HTH!
