Graco Nautilus?

I'm looking for carseats for my older DD (2 in a few more days!) She is around 30lbs and 36 inches. She is currently in a Britax Marathon in each of our cars, which we love.

DD#2 is already 19lbs and 27inches and is getting too big for her Graco Snugride. I want to move her to a Britax Marathon but I'm not sure if I should pick up 2 more marathons and have each of the girls in them or get 2 graco Nautilus for my older DD so that would be the last carseat we would need for her since it is a 3 in 1 and converts to a booster. I just feel guilty about pushing her out of the marathons since she is only 2. Anyone have the nautilus and how does it compare to the marathon?

  • I have the Nautilus, I LOOVE it. It's a great carseat, DS loves the cup holder.

  • First of all, I kept my DS rear facing until 2.5 years old, so the Nautilus wasn't an option at that point since it can only be used forward facing.  But, since RF is really the safest, I'd rather them both be in Marathons until they are outgrown before seeking a seat like the Nautilus.

We got one for our almost 4 year old who isn't even 40 pounds yet...(32)... and we wanted to keep him harnessed in a 5 point harness as long as possible.  And because he is currently in a Roundabout which has a much lower height limit than the Marathon.  Otherwise, if he had a Marathon, he's still be in it.

But, right now the models preferred for extended 5 point harnessing is between the Nautilus and the Britax Frontier.  The nautilus has higher strap holes and will last in 5 point restraint a bit longer, although it is markedly narrower than the Frontier.

  • DD is actually still rear-facing in our larger vehicle, we had to turn her FF in mine b/c she no longer fit rearfacing w/ the infant seat in the same row as well. I'm thinking we'd be turning her FF even if she stays in the Marathon soon so that isn't really a drawback for me with the Nautilus.
