I'm The Only One.......

Who did not wake their baby to feed at night. I'm sure I would have if she had been a preemie or was under weight. I woke her (I don't anymore) during the day to feed her but never at night. Am I really the only one?!?!

  • My ped actually told me NOT to wake her to feed her when she was younger, so I didn't.

  • I never woke to feed.  But I never had to since I have a little piggy.  He still eats every three hours.  He is just now dropping down to one feeding overnight instead of two.

  • We have our 2 week appointment on Thursday and they said that if he's gaining weight properly that we won't have to wake him to feed overnight.  Although given my freak out this evening with the spit up...he might still need to get woken up.

  • She woke (wakes?!) up enough on her own, that I didn't need to....and she was definitely under-weight, but not for long.

  • We took the boys home at their birth weight and were told not to wake them - at night, even as newborns, they gave us a 5 hr stretch.
  • Good for you!  We had to feed Kira every 3 hours until she was 2 months old, so if a feeding lasted 60+ minutes, you do the math. ;)  DH gave her a bottle while I pumped since she wasn't yet latching.  I continued to pump overnight for a few more months, but I hated when DH and DD had to wake up those first couple of months too.  If they're gaining weight, then they're probably fine, at least after those first couple of weeks. :)

I'm so very jealous!  We are waking them every 3 hours since they were born early and so small.  I'm guessing we have at least 2 more weeks of this.....sigh.....

  • We woke DS to feed the first week til he regained his birth weight after that we let him sleep and feed on demand.  Heck we still do that.

Nope....I NEVER once woke DS up to feed him. I would never do that (sorry.....in my opinion, its a horrible habit.....). During the night....you let them sleep and once they sleep through the night, it means they can do it without feeding!

  • Mine were under 6 pounds and my pedi told me not to wake them at night.  They always woke up at 230 on the dot.  I took that away once they were 3 months old and they stopped getting up at 230.

  • I think I woke DD up once or twice, but she lost weight in the hospital and wasn't going to get back to her birth weight by 2 weeks, so I did wake her up once or twice, but that's it.  She usually woke us up anyway, so it wasn't a big deal.

Once we stopped waking her to feed her, she slept though the night right away.  We just needed to keep those calories coming for the first couple months; it wasn't fun for any of us, but you do what you have to do.  It didn't affect her ability to sleep through the night at all. :)
