Rash ?

My 18mo has been sick since Feb. First it was a fever with double ear infection, than another cold and cough, than another EI which did not respond to Amox., now after an antibiotic switch over the weekend he has an awful looking rash covering his entire body. We brought him back to the Pedi. this afternoon and he said it was not due to the antibotic and to keep giving it to him. It could be a rash from a virus  or a side effect (not an allergic reaction). Have any of you had a similar experience? I feel so bad,and am thinking about calling the Pedi and asking for a switch in medication.
