Any suggestions on getting them to bed?

Now that they can pull themselves up, I can't get them to lay down.  I thought "maybe if I just let them do it, they'll get tired and lay down".  I waited until it was quiet for 10 minutes, went in and they were still standing in their cribs and smiled at me.  Dh took Katie and I took Karly.  I layed in bed with karly until she went to sleep and dh played with Katie and I just put her in bed now.

Any suggestions?

Re: Any suggestions on getting them to bed?

  • If they're not crying, I'd let them put themselves to sleep. Do a good bedtime routine and then put them to bed and leave. They'll learn to soothe themself to sleep that way. Oh and don't go back in. :) ...well unless they're crying.

  • Right there w/ ya!  We usually don't have problems at night, they're so tired but at nap time, I've had to rock Luke to sleep for the last few days.  Can't wait 'til he learns how to sit/lie back down.
  • When Brady started doing that it was rough! He knew how to get up, but didnt know how to get back down. But he would just stand there and cry. No matter how many times I laid him back down he would stand right back up again. A few times we would go back in there when it was quiet and he would be asleep standing up with his face on the crib rail!! It was pretty funny. But after a couple of days of doing that he learned how to get back down and it got old and he went back to normal. So I guess I dont have much advice besides laying them back down, and maybe rubbing thier backs, but do know it WILL get better!!
  • But Mrs Reem..I had a good bedtime routine :( This new milestone is ruining it!  lol.  Tomorrow I am not going back in.  NOT.  I promise.

  • I am still dealing with this and it's been 3+ months. He will stand there for hours and hours. He hates sleeping.

  • Hmm, well Ella doesn't do that yet, but I would probably just keep checking in on them every 10 minutes, laying them down everytime.  Hopefully they will get tired of standing.
