Question for those with summer babies...

DS was born in Feb so I'm totally spacing out with this one due the first week of August.

Ridiculous question, I know, but did you still put DC in sleepers (long sleeved, footed, zipper etc)??  Or did you seem to stay in short sleeve onsies etc?  I don't mean for going out as much as being at the house, in the hospital etc.

We keep our house pretty cool in the summer, but DS usually sleeps in short sleeved/long pants PJ's so I'm not quite sure what to put on our new DS in Aug.  Do they still put a long sleeved shirt on DS in teh hospital in the summer?

Thanks for humoring me.  Mommy mush brain has set in :)

Re: Question for those with summer babies...

  • Yes, my babies both slept in long-sleeved clothing. ?They were born in July and August, so they wore short sleeves during the days (wrapped in a blanket), but our air conditioning is pretty chilly in the summer. ?Oh, and they still put the hat and long-sleeved shirt on the baby in the hospital :)

  • Nora was in short sleeved onesies for most of the summer when she was born, but it was hot as hell and we didn't have A/C so that played a big part in her wardrobe.

I would say probably a short sleeved onesie and pants during the day if you keep the house cool. His night wear could depend on personality too. He might get hot in too many layers or he might need a lot! And if you'll be swaddling him, you can obviously count that as a layer. :)

  • I put my kids in sleepers at night, but during the day they wore rompers type outfits.  The car seat got hot quickly and I kept a blanket with me always to cover them up with when we were inside.
  • I would think they need the long sleeved and footed sleepers. Since they are so small they'll have a hard time retaining their body heat.
  • Newborns have a harder time regulating their body temp the first few days (up to a week I think) so we kept them in light weight long sleeves/pants. Once they got past the first week, it was mostly onsies with short sleeves during the day and long sleeved onsied and pjs for bedtime (when their body temp drops).
  • Yep. My July baby wore long sleeved sleepers to bed. ?Now she wears whatever.. but at the time, that's what she wore!!

  • To sleep she wore a onsie & was swaddled.  During the day it was onsies with pant set.

  • My oldest DS was born the first of August.  The hospital kept him in long sleeved T's.  I put him in short leaved at home because we did not have air conditioning.  He came home in a short sleeved top and pair of shorts (he was 9.7 so filled them out pretty good).  At home we had a few sleepers that were very thin and he wore those at night to sleep in.  It was sooo very hot that summer.
