I saw your post below about how the NICU dr wouldnt see you until 28-29 weeks.

I was admitted at 29 weeks and the NICU dr wouldnt come to see me at all.  I had some questions about what to expect and what goals as far as weeks go to make.

Finally my nurse pleaded with him to just come in and give me guidelines....he said "I want you to make it to 34 weeks....yes 29 weeks is viable but 34 weeks is the goal I want you to work towards"

I think all NICU drs should talk with all antepartum moms no matter how many weeks they are.

  • Sorry to barge but I agree with you.

I interviewd the NICU doctors when I was 12 weekspregnant, in fact thy came into see me prior to my cerlcage at that time. I also had a tour of the NICU and got to talk to a couple moms and nurses. Granted my neighbor was a charge nurse at the NICU, she did say it was standard procedure. When I was admited at 30 weeks the first perosn in my room was the NICU doctor, to explain to me what could happen if they were born then and what to expect.

    I loved my hospital.

  • when my water broke with jenna at 23 weeks.... the nicu docs came in immediately to explain everything in great detail.i uactually had them come back again and answer more questions. i made it another weeks before infection set in....
  • I totally agree w/ you---a NICU doctor should always be available to answer questions. ?I've never felt so helpless in my life as I did during those few weeks (and I'm sure many of us felt that way). ?

It's hard when it's just a job for one person involved and an entire future for another.
