I had to post this - it's a conversation between my sister's son & the boy they do a nanny-share with. The other boy's mother hadn't left for work yet when she overheard this conversation as they were heading out with the nanny. She sent my sister this email documenting the conversation. The boys are both 2 1/2+ years old.

The discussion this morning was too adorable not to document. Wanted you to know about it.
?I want to walk, Veronica? (V sometimes let?s one of them walk, when they go to the park).
?No, I want to walk and you can get in the stroller?
?No ? I want to walk?
?OK?, says the one to the other ?Let?s talk about the options?.
?OK?
?There is Emerson and Aaron ?.? (a bit of confusion as to how to present the options)
?OK, but I want to walk?
?mmm?.let me think about it? (walks away to think, turns back ?)
?Yeah ?. I think I should walk and you get in the stroller? (I giggle J)
And they?re stumped ?.. not fighting, not throwing tantrums, no tears, just looking at each other face to face and standing pretty close (? so cute ? I only wish I could have captured it on film.), really trying to sort out this dilemma.
Then the conversation shifted.
?Veronica, can we go to the Frog Park??
Etc ?..
It was so so amazing to see them having this emotionally intelligent conversation, not really resolving it, but talking in a way that they were trying to, despite neither wanting to compromise. In the end, they both walked to the elevator and who knows what happens from there.
I was so proud of them both, having this discussion, and told them so.
How precious is that!!
