Do most hospitals allow laptops?

I thought I saw in our little brochure that you're not supposed to bring laptops to the hospital.  I don't own one, anyway, but my sister does.  How could I possibly give birth and then not alert the Nest and upload 10 billion pics to our blog immediately?!

I must be mistaken, right?

hmmm...mine didn't say anything about not bringing them, but they did not have WIFI so what would have been the point? ;)

Even if they had WIFI, I think I would have been too busy to nest from there.  But I bet it is because they don't want stuff getting stolen?  They did ask us what 'valuables' we had.

  • I would have been so lost without my laptop lol  The only thing was I had to use dial-up which totally sucked...the hospital was not quite ready to be completely wi-fi at that time.

  • I have always had one at any hospital I was at. ?I would have gone insane during my 2nd trimester w/o one there. ?
  • there is no such rule at my hospital - and they have WiFi -it was great to have b/c i spent so much time there during my pregnancy... and was able to check email/update the nest after DS was born - which I did have time for- there is a lot of down time when baby  is sleeping, etc..... and i had a hard time sleeping.
  • My last hospital didn't allow you to bring anything that plugged in...laptops, blowdryers, cell phone chargers, etc.
  • My Gran was recently in hospital and my mum was able to work from a laptop beside her bed.

I seem to remember they don't let them in ICU or burns unit or (obviously) recovery wards. Burns unit it is about hygeine. ICU it is about interference with the electronic equipment. Should be fine in the mat ward.

If they don't have wifi in the wards themselves (some of the older hospitals don't) they do in the waiting rooms, cafeteria etc.

  • I wish I would have known our hospital had wi-fi when Adeline was born, they didn't have it the previous two times I had a baby there. But there was a mega snowstorm when we were there and we had no visitors, there was nothing on tv and DD was under the bili lights, so it would have been nice to be able to go online. I should have had DH bring it to me the one time he went home, but we didn't know there would be a big snowstorm either.
  • I would give them a call.  When my DD had her DS they had a computer there already...you just pulled it over (like a tray).  She emailed while in labor!
