Does vomit look different then spit up?

Sorry kind of a dumb question...

Re: Does vomit look different then spit up?

  • I want to know this too.. because ds woke up from his last nap and "spit up" all over the floor... no more then a tablespoon, but very thick and white... is that considered vomit or spit up? It happened almost 3 hours after his last bottle...

  • Yes.  Spit up is "fresh" looking.  It will look like milk.  Vomit looks like milk but has extra color too it.  Like not so milky white.  Sorry if that doesnt help too much.
  • i think DD vomited a couple of nights ago, and it looked curdled (sorry). if she spits up it's usually more like plain milk. i dunno if that helps!
  • For dd, it's also kind of a volume/quantity thing.  She's thrown up twice.  When she threw up the first time, I realized that everything before that had been spit up.  You will know the difference when it happens.
  • spit up should look very similar to the milk they just drank. ?vomit will be curdled which means it made it to the baby's stomach then came back up.
