Success after IF

loads of spit up today...should I worry?

Jacob has been spitting up a good amount today, but not right after he feeds... more like an hour or more later.  And it seems to be a fair amount of spit up.

A few minutes ago he was sitting in his bouncy seat while I was emptying the dish washer and I heard him burp.  I looked over and he had spit up and it had made it all the way to the floor.  Projectile, I would say.  I cleaned him up, put him back in the bouncer without the vibrations.  He spit up a little bit again.  He also spit up a fair amount earlier today while sitting in his boppy.

He took a good nap this afternoon and I had to wake him to feed him.  He seems hungry right now, so I'm going to feed him.  But should I worry about this?  I know its normal to have some spit up, but projectile?  At 11 days?  He's peeing and pooing well and seems content when he's awake even after he spit up.  Shouls I just see what the night brings?  Do I need to call his doctor?

Thanks from a neurotic new mom!

  • My DS has tons of spit up too - all the time. ?It shouldn't be projectile, but sometimes my DS's seem a little more forceful - especially if it is a lot. ?I would keep an eye on him - if it keeps being projectile, I would call, or if he is not having wet/poopy diapers. ?Otherwise it is probably normal. ?I have noticed that the more dairy I eat, the worse it is...maybe you ate something that he doesn't like as much? ?Hope everything is ok!

  • Sometimes it looks like a lot but it isn't really.  Or so that is what the nurses told me.  We found out at 2 months that my girls had reflux and their spit wasn't in normal amounts.  As long as he has gained weight at his next visit and isn't screaming he should be okay.  Good luck.

  • Ditto the pp's - as long as he is having wet/poopy diapers, gaining weight and doesn't seem like he is in pain, I'm sure he's okay :)  I would mention it at his next appt. though, just so they know and maybe you can have some reassurance!
