Intro and a question

Hi girls! I just found out today that I am pregnant with our first. We are very excited and nervous at the same time, so I'm sure that I'll be spending too much time on these boards!

I made my first Dr. appointment and I will be exactly 6 weeks at the apt. What will they do at 6 weeks? Do you think we will get to hear a heartbeat or anything?

You will likely get a pap (if you are up to date they make skip it), you will go through some basic info questions, get blood drawn and possibly get an u/s for dating purposes. That last one depends on your OB/ins coverage.

That's awesome that you got in at six weeks. ?When I went then, they did an ultrasound since I was having bleeding, and the heartbeat was really low because it was still very early. ?So don't freak out if you can't hear it yet or if it's low. ?The doctor will also probably do an exam to see how everything looks. ?

I heard the heartbeat at 6 weeks but it is different for everyone.

At your first visit they will draw several vials of blood, do a pelvic exam and a pap smear and ask you a ton of questions. You can only hear a heartbeat if they do an ultrasound, which they would have told you about when you made your appointment. You can hear a heartbeat by doppler after 12 weeks. Usually after your first appointment they will schedule an ultrasound for between 8-14 weeks.
