When to see the doc about stools...

The last 5 days I have had stomach pains, then had loose stools/diarrhea (not runny runny) but very loose. I started taking one immodium a day, yet the next day comes and i get the stomach pains again (which usually is followed by a bowel movement). I get those associated stomach pains with stools every year, just very infrequent. I havent had a movement for 2 days, when would you contact a doctor about this? I only had 1-2 loose movements a day (then none today or yesterday) so its not dehydrating me, but I was just wondering if anyone experienced the same thing, or if its something worth seeing a doc over.

  • i dunno... i'd say that been "normal" for me during this pregnancy - I either crap my brains out or don't crap for days... ahh, the joys of pregnancy!

  • sounds like it could just be normal pregnancy issues.. What are you eating? I probably wouldn't continue taking immodium and just try to go on the BRAT diet and drink tons of water, when you have loose stools that is. But I avoid immodium anyway because I have both that and the opposite problem too often.. err.. And if it was a virus, then immodium won't help any to clear it out.

If you haven't had a BM in 2 days, it's probably just that your body "cleared" itself out.. you may even be constipated now. Another fun PG side-effect. I wouldn't call the doctor over this yet. Just eat lots of high fiber foods to get things going again.

  • it doesnt sound like something to be concerned about. i would try to avoid the imodium or make sure its okay with your dr first. from what you're describing, ive had a lot more severe diarrhea (&associated pain/cramping) and i brought it up to my midwife at my last appt and she wasnt concerned at all.
